2 year old still seems poorly after having stomach bug a week ago

Hey everyone, just looking for some reassurance from some other mums as my anxiety is sky high.

Monday night my 2 year old came down with a sickness bug, puking all night long. He didn't fully stop until Thursday night after the last bought of sickness, as he was being sick once a day. He had no diarrhoea at all.

He's since back to eating almost normally, drinking fine, maybe not as much as usual but wet nappies so I'm happy, and playing almost like usual. (It's now Sunday, tomorrow will be a week since he came down ill.)

My concern is he just still doesn't seem himself! He seems to always have big red tired eyes, he's pretty grumpy, and he seems extra hungry too, constantly going to the cupboard to indicate he wants food (not talking properly yet). He's taking ages to fall asleep even though he's much more tired than usual, and then has been waking up early from naps and in the night (he usually sleeps through)

My question is is this normal? For a toddler to still not be 100% a week after the bug? Tomorrow it'll be a week since it hit him. He just seems exhausted by lunchtime and then bedtime and like I said super hungry and grumpy.

His daily routine has been all over the place because he was poorly so sleeping much more, and i also got the bug too so couldn't do much, but today I've decided to get back to our normal wake times, nap times and bed time.

Please help me feel better, I have awful health anxiety and am worried something more sinister is going on 😓

He's had the bug once before, this time last year, but I can't really remember how quickly he bounced back to his normal self.

Thank you, from one stressed mummy 😭

He is probably still feeling groggy.
My son can take afew days after an illness to get back to himself.
I had the sickness bug the other month and I felt like crap for a week even though sickness stopped after 48 hours.

Sounds like he's eating more to get his energy back up.
Regarding sleep, just like you say his routine is out of wack due to being ill. Hopefully he gets back into it in a couple of days.

I have taken both of mine to GP over similar issues. One time it was give vitamins and monitor. The other time was a temporary milk intolerance caused by the illness.

GP would much rather see 100 well children than miss the 1 who needed help. So GP. Little ones can go downhill so fast it's not worth not going

Thank you for your quick reply, I really hope he starts feeling better soon. We are finally going to see my parents tomorrow, who we normally see almost every day, after a week of not seeing them so I am hoping that'll cheer him up!
He's due to go back to nursery on Thursday, I'm really hoping he's back to himself by then, if he's still the same I'm thinking of calling the GP.
Thanks again x

Do you think I should call the gp tomorrow then? He's not been sick since Thursday evening, and has been eating and drinking pretty much fine since, he himself just still seems a bit under the weather.
I have such bad health anxiety and admit that I have called 111/ gone to the gp a few times for him when there was no reason to, so am trying to rationalise before wasting their time again 😢

I’d call the GP. It’s probably nothing to worry about at all, but I know that my GP asks us to come in for things like this.

My 2.5-yo had a 12 day tummy bug last year. After Day 5, the GP had us come in every 3-4 days to check his weight and listen to what was going on inside his tummy. When she went away for a few days, she asked the practice nurse to check in with us. She wasn’t overly nervous about anything, but as PP said, most GPs would rather keep an eye on little ones even if they turn out to be totally fine (which thankfully my DS was!)
