So my 13 week old had a bath and i was drying him off. I dry everywhere in his creases with a towel but obviously not good enough as ive lifted his arms and his little arm pits are red raw, one has white on but i think may be leftover talc.

I feel so awful, they must be sore for him

Do i need to go to the GP or can i treat at home?

Do i need to wipe a few times a day incase its spit up? But how would it get there?!

How can i prevent this, i dry him with a towel but i must admit i dont lift his arms each time, i stuff the towel in the armpits to dry. Hes like superman and so strong i felt bad forcing his arms up but now i feel awful for not.

What is best? Talc? Sudocrem? Help!?!?!

They always gets wee white bits in the underarm creases, just wipe it with a wee cloth or a baby wipe.

One of mine had this once. It was fungal - like thrush/athletes foot. I felt awful like you do but soon cleared up with the right cream. It's probably the sort of thing you could show to a pharmacist rather than needing an appointment anywhere.

marmiteloversunite · 03/09/2022 21:38

Firstly you are not a bad mum. These things happen. Do you think it could be thrush? I wouldn't put talc on it. Do you have a walk in centre you can take him to tomorrow?

whatshouldIdo2022 · 03/09/2022 21:38

Oh we had this, didn't even occur to us to dry in the folds! Felt awful too but it dried out in a day with some sudocrem on and loose clothing/top off where possible. Don't worry it will be fine!

MrsBwced · 03/09/2022 21:40

Mine had this. I put metanium on and it cleared up in no time.

Discwriter · 03/09/2022 21:40

Mine did this OP. Just keep it dry and use talc after a bath. Don't beat yourself up.

NanaNelly · 03/09/2022 21:41

I’d want to check with a medic that it’s not a fungal infection.

BigSidLittleSid · 03/09/2022 21:41

Agree it could be fungal, I would ask pharmacist for cream. Don't feel bad though, stuff like this happens!

Ducksurprise · 03/09/2022 21:43

I'd start with sudocream

Have you opened his tiny little hands and seen what is inside them, or maybe it was just me that missed that.

Rutland2022 · 03/09/2022 21:45

We had that too, Sudocreme sorted it in a couple of days.
Once I’d cleaned all the gunky bit off it healed up quickly.

vipersnest1 · 03/09/2022 21:48

Another one here - although in my case it was DC1's chubby neck folds.
It happens to the best of us, so don't beat yourself up about it.
Now you know, just keep it clean (wash gently while it's still sore) and then stay on top of it once it's healed.

tealandteal · 03/09/2022 21:48

My DS is 10 weeks old and has this but I knew to check from my older son. You are not a bad mum, no one tells you these things! For him to is like nappy rash as their arms are always down so it never gets air and gets a bit sweaty and sore. He also gets it under his chin which is much better now he has more head control. I just make sure to dry it thoroughly and put some nappy cream on it and it clears up within a day or so and I keep an eye for it recurring.

sarahc336 · 03/09/2022 21:49

Oh dd2 got this in her neck rolls 🫣🫣 we used some sudacream and made sure it stayed dry all the time don't worry op these things are really common!! X

nancyglancey · 03/09/2022 21:52

When DD was tiny she had this and the midwife suggested sudocrem. I've thought the stuff was magic ever since. Cleared up overnight.

Treelines · 03/09/2022 21:55

My Dd had this at the same age, and it was an infection. I was given antibiotics for her. I'd have it looked at.

underneaththeash · 03/09/2022 22:34

He’ll be fine. As PO said, but a bit of sudocrene on.

please don’t use talc though, it’s bad for babies lungs.

3yearstrying · 03/09/2022 23:29

Thank you all so much! I do feel at ease im not the only one this has happened too.

I'll refrain from talc, ive applied some sudocrem and will give it a day or so then go further. He did cry when i applied it so its hurts my heart

I'll be forcing his superman strong arms up from now on to dry!
