Worried about my 9mo swollen lymph nodes!

Ive got myself into a massive panic about my 9mo swollen lymph nodes. He has had them from 6 weeks old on the back of his head, which have been checked out by the GP and has been put down to his cradle cap. The ones on the back of his head havent got any bigger, but over time i have noticed more over his body. I dont know whether they are new, or because im more aware that i am noticing them. He has them on the side of his neck, which earlier on i could see when he turned his head! I've also checked his groin and he has some there too! Which i havent noticed before. I have got myself properly freaked out. Every time i mention it to the GP they either brush it off or say wait until his cradle cap has gone. He also suffers from eczema and ? Some allergies which we are waiting to be reviewed for. Ive read that lymph nodes can be swollen due to those issues but im super worried it could be something more sinister. Could anyone shed any light?

Eczema is really good at sending up lymph nodes. But you're worried, so why not get your GP to check them out.

Thats what the rational side of my brain has told me but the irrational side is running mad! I feel like im one of those anxious mums going to the GP all the time

My daughter had a large lymph node appear behind her ear after she had chicken pox just before she turns 4 last year. It didn’t go down so I took her to doctors, after I insisted this was referred to hospital and a scan was done. Findings were that it was all fine and that it’s very common for children to have swollen lymph nodes and as they have little fat on them even if they are not fighting anything of you can often feel and see them. Now I am more aware I often feel and see the glans on her body and I still keep an eye but I felt a lot of relief after the scan was done, I also drove my self mad until we got the results.

I would say that if you are worried then go back to the GP and ask for the glans to be scanned/checked otherwise you will just drive yourself mad. Likely it will be nothing but it’s not worth making yourself ill over xx

Hi,

Did your little ones lymph nodes settle down?

Alstoybarn · 10/08/2023 00:33

Hey I know it's all relative but all 6 of my kids have had this from birth and it's been nothing. I also have lumps behind my ears that won't go away and doc said lymph nodes but benign. So maybe just a weird trait. Of course I'm not a doctor just wanted to say sometimes it can just be a thing

Hi Alstoybarn,

Which parts of the body has your Los had/have them?

Hi OP, my DS is identical - he’s always had massive lymph nodes in his groin- they once swelled to the size of a quail’s egg because he hurt his knees on a skate board 🙄they are usually the size of grapes! Try not to worry if bloods are fine. My DS is 10 now and he’s healthy otherwise. The paeds team just say he’s got a very good immune system
