12 month old asthma

Hi all, just looking for some reassurance and any advise. The GP is going to put my daughter on a low dose steroid to see if it will get rid of her night time/first thing in the morning cough which she has now had constantly for a couple of months. They're looking at it potentially being asthma. Has anyone had or does have this with their child? Any tips apart fro the inhaler that could help her? I've tried an air purifier but has had zero impact.
Thanks in advance. X

The inhaler will do the trick if it's asthma. Have you got a brown preventer with spacer?

Keeping the room dust free, anti allergy bedding and a humidifier may also help.

I asked for a non steroid option and was prescribed Montelukast. It's a sachet of powder at that age.

Brown preventor inhaler and montelukast helped my ds cough when he was younger. We only used steroids when in crisis.

Thank you for the replies. We've only been prescribed the blue inhaler not the brown? The GP has put her on it initially for four weeks to see if it improves her cough. We're giving it to her just before bed and in the morning. On a morning do you give it to your child as soon as they wake up? My daughter coughs within 10 minutes of her waking up so would it be best to do it before or after as she can wake up at 4:45 and then go back to sleep? Sorry for all the questions, feeling abit overwhelmed by it all to be honest.

The blue one is a reliever and is designed to use during an 'attack' - so for your daughter you could use this when she wakes at 4.45 or if she couldn't stop coughing for example. This one isn't really designed to treat the condition long term in the way your GP has suggested.

I would really push to try the brown one which is a preventer.

For the brown one we do it just before bed, and once she is up for the day. I think you'll probably find she's unlikely to go back to sleep after doing it to start with as she probably won't like the mask on her face - a lot of them don't to start with!

It is a bit overwhelming - my husband has the same type of asthma so at least for me he was an expert.

Thank you for your advice and your own experience. The photo below shows what she's been put on. Apparently it's what they prescribe to see if it clears up the cough/weeze. If not then a steroid is given and then is treated with asthma systems as no diagnosis till around 3 years old. She's only had 3 doses so far but no change yet. Not sure how long it is till there should be an improvement?

Yeah that's the reliever.

I would expect that to help stop the cough if she's coughing when you give it, but as far as I know it won't stop the cough from returning each day. I'm not a doctor though, only walking from my own experience.
My DD was given brown (clenil) and blue (Ventolin) inhalers with the instruction to give the brown one morning and night and the blue as needed. It took a couple of weeks to see a difference

DD is 5 now and still not officially diagnosed, but the inhaler works so pretty sure it is asthma.

Thank you for your advice and sharing your experiences, it's been really helpful for next steps in the next month or so.

My DC had this, it stopped when we cut out dairy.

Cutting out dairy? Was your baby coughing at night and first thing in the morning?
