Baby & dry nappy

Hi all

For a week my DD (11 months) has been waking up with completely dry nappies.

She has a full bottle before bed so I don't understand why & when she does have a wee overnight it smells terrible

Other than that she's well

She's fully weaned so has only 3 bottles a day and a little water in between

Should I take her to the gp? What could they do about it?

You should definitely take her to the GP to investigate. Any treatment would depend on cause. E.g. if an infection maybe antibiotics etc

Are her other nappies wet? I had the same thing with my DD (just as she decided she didn't want bottles any more) so saw the dr about dehydration but he said she was fine, and also the HV at her one year check who said it was probably developmental and not to worry about it as long as we were getting wet and dirty nappies. We still have lots of dry nights and some wet.

Just seen the bit about terrible smelling wee - we never had that so I'd definitely check in with your gp!

Are you sure she’s drinking enough water in the day? Just mentioning it because you said she has “a little water”.

At 11 months my DS was having drinks of water with every meal/snack and in between as well.

I would make sure she always has a beaker of water around, somewhere she can reach it herself, and also offer it to her regularly.

I would call out of hours today and explain about the dry nappies and foul smelling wee, babies can go off quite quickly if dehydrated/infection.
