Temperature since Tuesday

DD is 2. In the early hours of Tuesday she started spiking a temperature. It is regularly going up to 40. Fortunately, it responds well to Calpol, but as soon as that wears off her temperature goes back up again. She has been a bit brighter today with some 6 hour gaps between spikes of her temperature, rather than 4 hourly as previously. She has no other symptoms- no rash, no cold symptoms, no vomiting, poo is a little soft but mostly normal. . She is drinking lots and eating a little. When the temperature abates she is quite happy to play almost as normal. The only discomfort she is expressing is when her temperature rises she says ‘ouch’ a lot, but then is quite non specific about her arms or legs hurting.

Is there any specific reason that I should be worried or get her medical attention?

I think you should call the doctors this morning and ask her to be checked before the weekend.

My DS had this last year (he was 6) and his temp was rocketing - which is not normal - and we couldn't work out why. The doctor looked him over thoroughly and at the last minute, discovered a sore-looking inflamed tonsil. It was quite hard to spot but she managed to show me and it was tonsillitis. He was given antibiotics and right as rain within three days. He hadn't even complained of a sore throat.

A temp of 40 is very high for a 2 year old so don't delay, you'll be doing the right thing by getting her seen. Such a worry especially when they can't communicate what's wrong. Good luck!

You need to keep giving the paracetamol and ibuprofen regularly, don’t wait for her to need it.

See a doctor, she could have a UTI.
