Sore front bottom

I'm really worried about my daughter who is 3 years old. She has had a red/sore front bottom for a while, seen two doctors who say it is likely thrush and prescribed clotramizole which we have been applying for a week now with sudocrem. Tonight she was so sore that she bled and even though I thought the area was getting better clearly it is still very inflamed.

We will be going back to the doctor tomorrow but I wonder if anyone has had a similar experience where perhaps they have been allergic to the cream as I feel it is making this gs worse or if they know what else might be wrong? She still has a nappy at night but wears loose clothing in the day. Thanks

Are you putting anything in her baths?

mrsfoof · 24/08/2022 20:38

Have the doctors taken any swabs to identify thrush or otherwise?

Have you changed her brand of nappy (or could the manufacturer changed the formulation of the absorbent gel or something)? Could it be an allergy to the nappy? Does she wet heavily at night or do you think you could get her out of night nappies by lifting her when you go to bed?

Although not helping the root cause, we've always found that Metanium (apply thinly for best results) is better than Sudocrem for sore skin.

She sometimes have something in her bath but not every night and not tonight when she bled.

We have changed her night nappies, she does still wet them, sometimes quite heavily but I'm not sure if that could be in the morning when she wakes up.

I found the metonium a bit drying which is why we switched to sudocream. Thanks for your replies

Check for threadworms! We went through this with DD, all the thrush etc

Turns out it was a dose of the bum worms making her really sore down there

Smartiepants79 · 24/08/2022 20:51

Any sign of threadworms? They are the cause of all my Dds pain and irritation in that area.
Maybe worth thinking about

pipwoes · 24/08/2022 20:53

Is it worth asking about lichen sclerosis ? I think that's its name. Saw it on here recently mentioned by adult but someone said their young child had it too. I hope she's soon better

JacktomyDaniel · 24/08/2022 20:53

Also check she's drinking plenty. Acidic urine can irritate when in nappies.

Threadworms ! My daughter has had them secereak times. I found them hard to spot and the initial signs were vaginal soreness, night waking and wetting. The worms migrate to the vagina. Worth treating in case - buy Ovex from the chemist. Two doses, two weeks apart.

Bordernotboarder · 24/08/2022 21:00

Worth mentioning thst I never saw them in her stools!

ODFOx · 24/08/2022 21:02

Lots and lots of water to drink might help: all she can drink plus jelly and lollies.
At this time of year if they get dehydrated they can get little crystals drying around the opening if the urethra which is so sore.
Cold wet paper can help in the short term but increased fluids, frequent tepid baths and a moist water loo paper can really help.
It's also a great chance to go for toilet training if weeing in nappies in the heat is making her sore: even if she just tells someone immediately so they can wipe the area with water.

Workyticket · 24/08/2022 21:03

I thought threadworms too - are those the ones you should check for at night?? Sounds horrible op and I hope the gp can get her sorted.

Not what you asked and I'm sorry if I over step but please don't call her vagina / vulva a front bottom. Much safer long term to use the proper names
