4 day temperature

My 7 year old has had a high temp 38.2-40.1 for 4 days now. He’s also had vomiting, headache, loss of appetite, upper respiratory symptoms and lethargy. His temperature reduces slightly with calpol (nurofen also on 2 occasions) but not below 38. Covid test negative (tested as needed to get a lift to GP and didn’t want to pass it on if it was covid).

2 days ago he had what I’m sure was a febrile convulsion. Paramedics visited but felt follow up with GP would be best course of action as he had just woke up and was chatting away to them. Visited GP who thought some sort of infection but was unsuccessful at checking son’s ears, chest, urine etc (son has complex needs and was very irritable) so said to continue to give calpol and monitor. Temperature continued all through last night and into today. My son is managing to keep small sips of water down but isn’t eating and is too unwell to do any normal activities (he’s not left the sofa/bed for 4 days other than to visit the GP).

Prior to the onset of this my son had recently had blood tests due to regular night sweats (completely soaking sheets/pillow), frequent bruising, itchy skin and raised lymph nodes. Blood test was normal.

Has anyone’s child had anything similar? I don’t want to go back to the GP unnecessarily but I’m concerned they may have missed something needing antibiotics. I also feel helpless as the calpol isn’t really doing a lot and my son is not himself at all.

I'd go back to the GP to rule out an underlying bacterial infection. I hope the poor boy feels better soon.

Yes, I definitely will if it continues. It was only yesterday we were there though so I’m not sure if it’s too soon to be going back.

I’d definitely go back to the GP or even A&E to be honest, especially since Calpol isn’t bringing his temperature down to normal. Hope he gets well soon x

I would get him seen straight away tbh.
I have trouble with my son at the doctors also.
Get a urine sample pot and do it at home, UTI's can be dangerous if left.
Also needs to get everything else checked really.
My son had a temp for days and turned out to be an ear infection on one occasion and UTI the other.
