Just wondering if these could be chicken pox ?

Started a couple of days ago- High temp and these spots. But no itching. They ones around the mouth popped up yesterday morning and now have crusted over. The ones on arms and legs haven't changed.

Child is vaccinated, but only first dose !

Hard to tell from the photos. Are they full of clear fluid, like a blister? My dr advised me to shine a torch on them from the side if unclear. CP spots are majority clear blisters...

Also google hand, foot and mouth, as at least 2 of your photos are in the right place.

It's hard to say if they're filled with anything.

You're right, could also be HFM. She also has tonsillitis.

Looks more like hand foot and mouth which is only called that because that's where the majority of children get the spots. My ds had lots in his nappy area and behind his knees when he had them. They're often rugby ball shaped rather than round.

I would say hand, foot and mouth as chicken pox usually starts on the chest/ tummy/ back area (from my experience anyway!). They also itch like crazy.

Does she have any blisters inside her mouth?

Sussex34 · 15/08/2022 10:26

I definitely think it could be HFM. My daughter has had this twice in her first 18 months and once was v hard to detect as not many spots but high temp and wouldn’t eat. Second time spots were more visible and looked similar to yours. Hope she feels better.

I would also lean towards hfm. They look to firm for chicken pox. Can you get a look in their mouth? Any inside the lips or tongue look a bit like lumpy ulcers.

I don't think she does. I think she's also had it before and that time she had blisters in her mouth. She wouldn't eat and would cry when she tried to put her dummy in her mouth. She also would not drink from
her bottle at all, is it was just too painful. Even when she'd had Calpol etc. She was a mess for days. This time it's a little different. Even last time we weren't sure if it was definitely HFM, but I think it was. Her mouth was full of sores. And then later she got a rash on her hands.

I can't see any sores in her mouth ! I hope that's not to come. Last time it was absolutely horrific because she would not eat or drink for days !

Argh!!! Nursery !!!!
