Seeing mums or others going along with children and being on the phone all the time looks like a common thing these days. I have travelled to most western countries in my years, this ignoring children has never been as prominent. 🫴
Any thoughts ladies? The thing is children are the parents of tomorrow. Take care.

I don’t understand your title but I gather you have a problem with people being on the phone while their kid is in the pushchair? I’m pretty confident that most of those parents play/interact with their kids all day while their kid is not in the pushchair and are using this transport time to call someone/make an appointment/reply to their friend/look at a map to get where they’re going/do some admin. Maybe they’re not talking to their kid because the kid is meant to be trying to fall asleep.

And past generations of parents didn’t have mobile phones. I’m 32 and my parents’ generation never had a mobile phone until I was 10-ish. So we are the first decade or so of parents who can get stuff done while out and about.

It's not ignoring, it's grabbing a few minutes out of the 24 hours a day you're on duty. Don't worry so much about strangers' lives, especially when you have zero clue about their circumstances.

Well Leon, you don't know what they are doing. Answering work emails or doing an online shop or that days Duolingo. Booking a dental appointments, filling in a school permission slip or conducting a Teams meeting.

Unfortunately women often have a lot of admin to do.

Hmmm people used to "get stuff done" while they were out and about before mobile phones! A lot of the time the very reason they were out was "to get stuff done" e g. going to the bank, posting letters, buying clothes.

Right. And they also weren’t paying attention to their kids while they did it. Or they were tied to the landline/writing letters and also ignoring their kids. Or going further back, hunting and gathering. Take as old as time innit! Not to do with this generation of parents.

You can't go to the bank now. Even if you find one that's still open there are no staff. Just some machines for getting out money or paying it in. So rather than wholesomely walking down the high street with the pram pointing out squirrels, you take two photos of the cheque on your app.

Of course you can go to the bank! Plenty of staff in there a few weeks ago when I went.

Popcorn I’m not sure you’re getting the point of this thread 😄 whether you’re physically or virtually at the bank, either way you’re not engaging with your kid, which is what OP seemingly takes issue with.

CounterTop · 12/08/2022 17:31

I’m guessing there’s a man amongst us, “ladies”.

My nearest branch of my bank (HSBC) is completely unmanned unless you make an appointment for a mortgage or something. And you can't get money out except for at the machine.
