Pecked/scratched by chicken

Just before bedtime our 2yo was happily running naked around the garden and the bloody cockerel from the farm next door started chasing her.
I heard the screaming and turned around just as it pecked/scratched her with its beak.

it drew a minimal amount of blood but the scratch is about 4/5cm long and is pretty raised. We washed it immediately in the bath. Do you think this is a dash for a tetanus?

I would. Also clean well with soap and water and put some antiseptic on.

Sorry you did wash it, don't know how I missed that!

Findahouse21 · 11/08/2022 21:00

Didn't really need to share that she was naked. I would monitor overnight

Thank you. Yes, meant to say, I’ve put some Savlon on too.

presumably we can wait until morning? Or as it’s a 2 yo do you think there’s a greater urgency?

If she's had all her vaccines she should have had a tetanus vaccine? My DD(6) put a rusty nail through her foot and we were told she was still covered by the course she'd already had. I'd clean well with soap/antiseptic and then put antiseptic cream on tonight and ask the pharmacist in the morning.

Solasum · 11/08/2022 21:02

Is she up to date with her vaccinations (assuming UK)? If so, she will have had tetanus jabs as a baby, and will get another when she is 3

BusyBeaMe · 11/08/2022 21:03

@Findahouse21 I only added that so it’s clear it didn’t peck through clothes. Nothing untoward!

Omg. Stop panicking. She's fine

powershowerforanhour · 11/08/2022 21:07

Meh, they have have tetanus vaxes as babies and that's not even full thickness. Mine get scrapes like that from various sources every week. I'd be stretching the neck of the cockerel on the sly though.

You need to talk to the farm about the rooster. There's no need for them to have such an aggressive one. They should replace him. We have four and they're dotes, they'll come on your lap for cuddles.
