Hi all. Looking for opinions on what you have done or would do in this situation. My baby has chipped a large section of one front tooth off. A public dentist has said leave it and it will fall out when she's 6 or 7. A private dentist said she can rebuild the tooth but this would mean general anaesthetic due to her age. What do I do 😭

I'd leave it if I was you, but that's only my opinion because my DC did something similar to their two front teeth when they was 2, they are now 4yrs old and not bothered by it at all, and will fall out naturally soon enough Xx

My DD did the exact same thing at roughly the same age, however this was during covid so we had no choice but to leave it!
We’ve been to the dentist since who has said the tooth is dead, will fall out naturally and regrow normally as an adult tooth so just keeping everything crossed this will happen.
Its totally your call - I would have wanted to get it rebuilt given the chance because it broke my heart when she chipped it, but wouldn’t have wanted to put her through it given it was her baby tooth. However, if it’s bothering her then maybe consider it - sorry, not much help xx

I would leave it. The public dentist is right - whilst it may not look great people wont notice as their teeth are so small and the trauma of having to go through the repair would outweigh the waiting for it to naturally fall out imo

Can I ask was the bit of remaining tooth sharp? My daughters looks a bit sharp and I'm worried if she falls again it could badly cut her lip. I think that would be my only reason to get it fixed. I don't think I can justify putting her through it purely for cosmetic reasons. Altho if she got to 3 or 4 and was upset by it I might consider. It's just the sharp bit left that I worry about

I have to be honest, it was sharp at the time and given we were in the middle of lockdown, we had to leave it. As time has passed, it has become a bit more blunt I presume due to eating on it. We’ve not had any issues with her cutting her lip on it (touch wood!) x
