Does this look like chicken pox?

Hey!
these little spots have appeared on my little boy today, he also has one on his bum cheek. He has had a runny nose last couple of days and been slightly off his food but other than that he’s been fine. I’m worried it’s chicken pox as we go on holiday in 2.5 weeks. I imagine he would be fine by then but I also have a daughter so would be worried she would get it just as we go away. Any advice would be appreciated xxx

Pox have a distinctive blister head

KangarooKenny · 07/08/2022 21:09

The one on his cheek looks a bit like a blister, but it could be the picture. You should know tomorrow.
Not all of my kids pox had blisters, some of them were just big spots.

It does look like it but it could be. As PP said, you'll know by the morning for sure.

mylittlemonkys · 07/08/2022 21:33

Why will I know by morning? What am I looking out for? Xx

Lots more spots will come out. They will literally multiply overnight. And then some.

mylittlemonkys · 07/08/2022 21:45

Ok thank you, so if no more in the morning does that mean it’s unlikely to be CP?

Look at the tummy. CP often starts on the tummy with a spread of spots that look like little blisters.

mynameischloe · 07/08/2022 21:49

It's hard to say but I would imagine if there are NO more by the morning you're out of the woods. In my experience when both DC had it, it comes on very quickly. They had more when I'd check on them in the night, and then more when they woke up. It was like that for a few days then it peaked and they started to blister.

mynameischloe · 07/08/2022 21:49

Both my DC started on their arms and one of youngest DDs face.

stillherenow · 07/08/2022 22:16

Mine started like that. I wasn't sure what it was so took dd to the doctor who said definitely not chicken pox 🤨

Agree you'll know soon it comes on fast if it is

Fantasticfroliks · 07/08/2022 22:18

My daughter had two spots and that was all

mylittlemonkys · 07/08/2022 22:39

@stillherenow so was it CP and Dr got it wrong?

Doesn't look like CP to me. My baby has had random spots like this appear throughout summer. I think maybe pores getting clogged up because of the heat.

She has also had chicken pox and it was obvious when it was. About 3million new spots appearing every few hours. It is possible for them to get very few spots (like my son) but you'd still know from their blistery appearance, so you'll be sure in a couple of days I think.

Emmelina · 08/08/2022 00:34

It could be, see what happens overnight. Typically they multiply quickly!
if it stays as it is, it could well be insect bites. I’m covered in them - for some reason bugs love to bite me in summer, I must be strangely delicious!

Yup! I think they were on the back of her neck. She had it really badly too, but was much older.

stillherenow · 08/08/2022 07:55

You'll know by now if it's CP though.... otherwise I agree insect bites

mylittlemonkys · 08/08/2022 08:39

So he hasn’t had any new spots appear and the ones he did have seem to be fading so fine think it’s CP. my anxiety about them getting it just before holiday is through the roof! Not healthy really but can’t help but stress about it even tho I have no control over it!

That's good OP.

Houseofbloodymen · 08/08/2022 22:41

My son has had 5 separate waves weeks apart of 5 or 6 blisters on his body, which rather than turning scabby turned more warty then shrunk. It's now been diagnosed as molluscm. But everyone said it was chicken pox to begin with.

confusedlots · 08/08/2022 22:42

@mylittlemonkys I'd definitely recommend getting him vaccinated to avoid any similar stresses in the future! And to avoid him having to go through the pain of having chicken pox too of course.
