Are 10 year olds allowed protein shakes.? My son has cane in asking for one ( we don't have any) but I wasn't sure if this is something suitable for kids? If I'm wrong please advise me on recipes or powders to buy please. He is sporty and very lean ( if that makes a difference)

What about an ordinary milkshake, milk is quite high in protein so you can work out how much is in say 300 mls and give him that and tell him it is packed with x grams of protein

My son is 11 and asked for one of mine, I haven't given it to him as it's a lot of protein in one go. Too much protein can cause stomach issues. Usually children have enough protein in their regular food.

Yeah I would make a natural one with banana and peanut butter.

mallowchick · 02/08/2022 20:59

Ohhh banana and peanut butter sounds yum. I'll get one of those made for him
Tomorrow. As I said we don't use them
So I'm not sure about such things

Why is he asking for one? Does he think it is a short cut/easy way to building muscle?

Absolutely no to protien powders. They havent been properly tested on growing children.

I've just asked him. His friend has just had one, turn out it's actually just that pediasure milkshake stuff that has vitamins in it ( his parents call it a protein shake to make it sound more trendy )

My 14 year old asked me, he only had one and his stomach was hurting him all night and he had the next day off school with toilet issues!
I think they are definitely for over 18's

There are plenty of recipes for natural protein shakes and snacks you can get him involved in preparing them. But I would also discus how protein can be found in everyday foods like milk, chicken, cheese, eggs etc so you dont have to go to processed proteins you can just get it in your normal diet

Never heard of pediasure before, just Googled it and it appears to be a meal replacement for kids, maybe to gain weight?? not the mind of thing to feed to dc unless prescribed/recommend by a dietition.
