Baby planks when BF’ing?

Hi mumsnet! My DD is 6 weeks today and for the past 4 weeks or so she does this thing in the evening when she shows me that she’s hungry (sucking on her wrist) and then when I try to BF her, she planks, cries and it looks like she either can’t find my nipple or can’t latch. Possibly because of wind? I wind her and she’s not burping anymore and hold her upright after feeds. Basically, she’s got these 3 hours between 6 and 9 when she’s crying, looks like she’s asking for food but then refusing the feed and get really worked up about it.
She also seems to have a strong preference to sleeping with her head on one side. Has someone had something similar? Maybe it’s her neck that’s hurting her…

I’m taking her to an osteopath next week and to GP for a check up but I wanted to see if someone had something similar?

My baby had the same cues for feeding as sleeping so would root around as if hungry, maybe for comfort, but not want to eat. Did a similar thing where he would go stiff and arch his back with his head to one side.

Thanks for your reply. It actually might be the case with my daughter too. Just need to figure how to get her to nap in the evening

The crying from 6 to 9pm can be pretty normal, it's the dreadful witching hour where they are not happy whatever you do!

At 6 weeks especially there is a big growth spurt so they may be doing all sorts of weird things to stimulate milk production, such as hours of latching on and off, or headbutting!

I remember with my first it seemed like he'd forgotten how to feed at that time of day and was close to making a bottle at times, but in the end it just passed.

Definitely get her checked out if you are worried though or maybe reach out to a BF advice group?
