I feel like I should know but I’ve never dealt with them before so I’m just a bit unsure

Yes, looks like it. Its rife at the moment, all 3 of mine have just had it 😔

acornpattern · 21/07/2022 20:16

Yes agree. Mine have just had it and it looked exactly like that to begin with. Hope they have it mildly!

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 21/07/2022 20:17

Yep looks like chickenpox - got one with them at the moment

RooRem2 · 21/07/2022 20:17

@Nibletmum oh no😞 he’s been absolutely fine, only noticed them when I got him undressed for a bath. How were your dc when they had it?

My ds had it first, very mildly. Quite a few itchy, annoying spots which kept him awake at night but fine apart from that. My dd, who got it 2 weeks later, had it far worse - high temperature, no appetite and loads more spots. She spent two days stuck to me and sleeping a lot but after that was fine.

Berlioz23 · 21/07/2022 20:25

Yep looks like it. Paracetamol and piriton (chlorphenamine) when itchy if they can take it. Calamine is out of stock so eurax cream is good, as long as they’re over 3. Ibuprofen not recommended in chickenpox.

eatingasatsuma · 21/07/2022 20:28

Yes definitely chicken pox. Calpol and piriton. No ibuprofen.

winniesanderson · 21/07/2022 20:45

If no allergies/skin sensitivity, fill a sock or even better the foot of a pair of tights with a handful of oats if you have them and add to a bath. Both of mine found this very soothing. My eldest pretty much lived in the bath with one of these when she had chicken pox. Releases a kind of oat juice when squeezed which was apparently effective on the itching.

FizzyStream · 21/07/2022 21:33

My 5 yo DS2 woke up with the pox this morning. We've used calamine and ordered Poxclin from Amazon as this was brilliant when DS1 had CP.
He had a cool bath with Epsom salts in earlier which helped and some Piriton. He's been quite happy in himself but very bored and wanting to go to school!

RooRem2 · 21/07/2022 21:44

Thanks everyone and thanks for the tips!

@FizzyStream My DS is also 5, his school break up on Tuesday for the summer holidays, but obviously he won’t be going back now! He’s gutted bless him. It must be going around

All 3 of mine have had it. Eldest was a bit meh for a couple of days, didn’t eat much for a day or two, was moderately spotty and had one particularly uncomfortable spot (it was pretty big tbf). But was generally chirpy enough in himself. Youngest was 9 weeks and least effected, had hardly any spots, was a tad on the sleepy side but didn’t have a temperature and wasn’t particularly grizzly. My middle son was awful with it and really poorly and absolutely covered in spots, ran a temperature for 4 days and didn’t eat or sleep hardly for 4 days. But he was already poorly well before the spots blistered, the temperature came before any spots and just as I felt like it was never going to end, he made a drastic recovery and was fine by day 7. In my (admittedly) limited experience, if your DS was going to be really poorly with it (high temp, off his food etc), it probably would of happened by now.

virasoothe and poxclin are good, piriton too. Calpol for managing any discomfort and oats in a sock in a tepid bath. No ibuprofen. Best of luck and hope he’s feeling okay, it’ll be done with soon!

RooRem2 · 21/07/2022 22:04

@ChickenBurgers Thank you and thanks for the advice! I also an 18 month old, I’m hoping he doesn’t get it too but I know it’s very contagious🙄

7 year old a few spots, mild temp for about 36 hours then fine. 5 year old more spots, headache and temp 48 hours. 6 month old covered head to toe, grizzly and irritable. Spots in her genitals, ears and eyelids 😔
