My 14 year old daughter has just started & already her periods are following an irregular cycle. I'm concerned coz I was never like this. Haven't been to doc yet as early days.
Anyone have any thoughts? DaffodilDaffodil

They can be irregular at the start but should settle down

TigerRag · 30/06/2022 08:57

Yes, mine were irregular when I started but soon settled down.

My 13 year old had her first period which seemed very like a normal period... spotting then heavier for a day or 2 before getting lighter and stopping, then another light bleed for a couple of days around 3 weeks later and so far, nothing for the past 6.5 weeks. I've been told by a nurse friend it's totally normal for them to not settle even for the first year or so.

And I'm aware I seem to know a lot of details re my child's periods... she's just a very open, confident child who likes to tell me everything in detail Grin

My first year I only had 2 periods!! And then settled into a super regular cycle halfway through the second year

It is really common to have irregular and often painful and heavy periods for the first year or two.You can consider it to be normal. Of course some women's periods remain irregular eg if they have PCOS.

KangarooKenny · 30/06/2022 09:34

Mine DD’s never settled and it turns out she has PCOS.
