Hydrocele surgery

Has anyone had a son go through hydrocele repair surgery? I know what's involved but was interested in what the recovery/healing time afterwards was like, and how long before their son could do proper active sports again.

My DS is due to have this op this month and am in the same boat and wondered if your son has had his op yet?

Hi there my son had this when he was around 2, or it may have been just before.
it was absolutely fine- in and out the same same day, he had tiny neat scars and we were careful about bathing him for a while, and then he went back to normal very quickly. I don’t remember him struggling with anything.

My son had this done in March, along with a hernia repair which made it a more involved operation. It has been a complete success, he was sore for a few days but ibuprofen and calpol kept it in check, he was back to school the following week with a cushion to sit on and back to pe and sports in 4 weeks. The staff were all amazing with him and it was day surgery.

Thank you both for responding it’s so good to hear you both had successful surgeries and certainly eases my anxiety! Thank you again for sharing your experiences it’s so gratefully received x

Thanks for the feedback. My son is now fine, took about 6 weeks for him to go back to normal running and jumping. And it has had a massive positive impact on his mental health.
