Constant crying

In desperate need of advice! My 2 month old seems to cry whenever she is awake. She is fed and burped, on prescribed infant Gaviscon and has two drops of Infacol before every feed so I don’t think there is anything wrong with her. She seems to stop for a little while when being held then proceeds to cry, I can’t take her out

(posted accidentally without finishing). I can’t take her out anywhere in public because she will cry and nothing seems enjoyable anymore. I’ve tried to let her cry and tried comforting her, I’m not sure what else to do I can’t even set her down for 5 minutes whilst I eat something. Any advice is appreciated!

It would be hard to say what could be causing it. It's something you should mention to the health visitor.

It may just be the fourth trimester, which I'd recommend looking up if you haven't heard about it already. However, it could also be silent reflux.

I could never put my child down and took to baby wearing to get stuff done. It was reflux (obvious in hindsight as I had a very sicky baby compared to others) but later turned out to be an allergy - this is not always the case though.

You could check if wedging the top end of the crib/cot with a rolled up/folded towel underneath the mattress helps as laying flat is what causes the the crying with reflux. Alternatively if you have a baby swing and you can position it tilted up at the back, you might be able to get 5 minutes peace to eat or shower alone.

I hope you figure out what it is.

Is this something that's started suddenly or has she been this way since birth?

Some babies just aren't content, even if there's no reflux or allergies. The few I've known recently like this do grow out of it though- my friend's little boy cried all day every day for 3 months and they never found anything wrong with him. One day he just stopped, and now he's the most cheerful happy baby you could think of.

If she's always been a bit like this and she's been checked out then I would get a comfy sling, stick her in there all day so you can get things done (I became a dab hand at eating, cleaning and even going to the toilet with a baby attached to me) and ride it out. It will get better!
