My 10 year old is suffering intermittent headaches that last for a minute. He says it feels like something hard pushing out from the front of his head. It's so bad it makes him cry. The GP said to give paracetamol 4 times a day, but can't find anything else wrong with him. GP said at this stage A&E wouldn't do any further tests. What could this be, and how can I help him? He's missed 3 days of school so far and I'm worried.

Have they scanned him, OP?

Get an eyetest, DD was 10 over the first lockdowns had massive growth spurts and lots of headaches, her vision had declined quite substantially, apparently common at the onset of puberty.

@UmmH please can I ask how your son is doing now? Did things improve for him with his headaches?

UmmH · 19/11/2022 08:32

@Jaybird43 they've subsided in frequency and severity. It would seem the medics were right to suspect stress and anxiety. It's a long story, but I withdrew him from his school and there was a swift improvement. Now he's on a waiting list for CAMHS to address the underlying stressors. The paediatrician said overwhelmingly referrals to her clinic are for headaches. It's so common and still little understood.

They eventually did bloods, and this has shown a possible allergy but tests are ongoing.
