Hi, my 14 year old son has been overweight for the last 7 years. Healthy meals at home. We know he snacks from the cupboards. There isn't much to indulge in so he's quite creative. Just had a revelation when cleaning his room. His sister said 'don't forget the drawer of shame' then revealed his binge drawer. He's eating jars of Nutella from the spoon (found 8 spoons, 3 empty jars), tubes of Pringles, massive bars of cheap choc... All stuff he must be purchasing himself. Don't know what to do. When we've tried to broach healthy eating, he gets very upset and ashamed.

It's so hard but maybe try and target the reason for this, is he bullied, did anything happen at 7 which caused this behaviour to begin? Could there be a medical reason? Maybe a trip to the gp. Does he have any interest in sports or exercise he could take up?

Please tell me your DD didn’t call it the ‘drawer of shame’ in front of him, and if she did I hope you pulled her up on it! Attaching feelings of guilt and shame to eating is what causes/fuels binge eating.

He's away for the weekend so no issues with that but he does feel ashamed 😔 even though we've always tried to avoid this.

He's quite active. Enjoys basketball and does trampolining. Could do more x
