How long does redness from chicken pox go?

Hiya, I have 2 sons, a 22 month old and a 7 week old. The older one unfortunately brought chicken pox home two weeks ago. Hes at the stage where the scabs are coming off. He got quite a lot and I'm just wondering how long it takes for the redness once the scab falls off to disappear? I've been covering him in sudocrem which has helped.

As for the 7 week old I'm absolutely distraught at how many spots he has. He's 100 times worse than his brother despite being breastfed....I had chicken pox as a child. I'm so worried hes going to be permanently marked by the chicken pox and on a selfish note...he will never look the same. It just seems so unfair thst someone so small should suffer. I wish I could wipe the marks away....I'm just worried he will still have the blemishes by the time I finish mat leave...any insight would be greatly appreciated x

I don't have any advice for now but would like for you to know that if someone has chicken pox before their first birthday they might not build up immunity and can catch it again. It's not a certainty, some do build up immunity but many don't. So if it really bothers you, you could think anbout vaccinating the younger one later on to prevent re-catching it.

My eldest DD had it three weeks ago, her skin and the spots have settled back to normal now. The spots are just little scabs which are gradually falling off leaving white marks which are also fading. I imagine it will be a good few months before they've all faded judging by her friends in her class.

They WILL fade, OP. I promise!!! Think of all the children that have it, you'd never know looking at them now, OP.

Thanks, judging how many spots he has he wl definitely produce an immunity to it. I just feel so sad about how he looks. For his first year of life he will be scarred and marked. I know it his health is what matters but I know looking back at photos seeing this will make me feel really sad. I just feel terrible I haven't been able to protect him from it. I would have rather he got this when he was older. My friends kid is 3 and it took 3 weeks for the marks to completely disappear I'm just praying his new skin will do the same x
