Pin prick rash not going away with glass test

So my nearly 3 year old developed a rash on Tuesday that didn't go away with the glass test. All fine within herself but I was worried about the rash. It's like pin pricks under the skin. Rang 111, vid call with paediatrician sent us to A&E. Did a wee sample which they didn't test. Dr told us to go to GP. Thurs went to GP, did wee sample, all fine. Rash has spread up arm. They said all fine - probs viral, but if any bleeding even gums then straight to A&E. But I'm still feeling a bit worried 😭

Sepsis/meningitis doesn't present as a rash in an otherwise perfectly well child with no other symptoms. But if you are concerned then you could try urgent care. I know how hard it is to be really worried about them x

She's fine , she's been checked out.

Thanks you @October2020 yes hate worrying but can't help it! I've lots of experience of "she's okay" and next minute i am in theatre having emergency surgery. I guess my anxiety comes from that!

I had this with my 11 month old dd. Don’t know if this helps but the doctor at a and e told us that sometimes the glass method can overcomplicate things - when I tried it the rash didn’t appear to be blanching. He said to apply pressure with one finger and drag it across the skin. Much easier to see if it blanches or not.
Anyway our dd was diagnosed with a viral rash which I also didn’t know was a thing that happened! It disappeared after a few days as she fought off the (yet another nursery) cold.

DS used to get this repeatedly when he was little, it was always a viral rash.

Hellocatshome · 23/06/2022 18:14

The rash is an advanced symptom of meningitis it doesn't present without any other symptoms. It sounds more like a prickly heat kind of a rash. There are several rashes that don't blanch so it is not really a definitive test.

@Tgilaura this makes sense! I think we all panic when the glass thing doesn't work 😂 When i left the Gp, she said any bleeding even a little from the gums, then go straight to A&E, so that worried me. But I know it shouldn't, but you can't help it sometimes! Nice to come on here for a little reassurance, which I have had (bar some 🙄)
