Post Chickenpox

Does anybody have any recommendations for a cream to help skin heal post chickenpox? My DD has had a particularly bad dose of it, spots all over her body, no doubt some scarring.
If anyone has any suggestions as to how to help the skin heal I would appreciate it!
TIA

So has mine. I'm being careful not to knock the scabs off as that will be more likely to scar. I'm applying germoline twice a day to the really big black scabs to help them heal and stop infection. But I wouldn't go crazy rubbing them in case they come away. My other child got it first and has a couple of small crater scabs and the rest purplish marks. They can take up to a year to fade apparently.

Most fade eventually, sun exposure etc means the white marks start to blend in. Not that I advocate sitting out getting a tan, just normal natural exposure.

My dc3 is 10 now. They got the pox just before their 3rd birthday and had it very badly (hospital badly). They still have a lot of scars but they have faded and the only noticeable ones really now are those that left a big crater and I think even those I see more because I know where they are.

Kids get scars and marks, we all do. Nobody has completely flawless skin.

@OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea oh I know, I have chickenpox scars myself! I was just looking to see if anything did exist to help the skin heal. I was thinking the same re the sun, she loves being outside so hopefully that will help during the summer months.

@Ridingthegravytrain yes she has a few of those herself! Although it has been so difficult to try and stop a 2yr old itching! Will try the germoline thank you

Whilst there are still spots/scabs then PoxClin mousse worked a treat for my daughter who had a nasty case of chicken pox. This completely stopped any itching and all cleared up really well. After I used Bio Oil and, she has no scars

mrsmmajeika · 22/06/2022 14:28

@BirdyBrain we went to the pharmacy to get some of the poxcilin and was told they didn't have any, hadn't had any for months, and there was no point in looking anywhere as nobody would have it!! I looked online and everywhere seemed to be sold out! So unfortunately we never got any of that.

@BirdyBrain thank you for the bio oil tip

I was going to suggest bio oil too; and/or moisturiser with vitamin e. With both my kids the spots/scars disappeared fairly quickly, particularly those that saw the sunlight. My DD’s remaining scars are those on her belly that never really see daylight!

Boots Scar Reduction Serum works really well for me.

mrsmmajeika · 23/06/2022 12:16

@DoItAfraid @macaronip1e thank you both for the advice!
