Reflux and breast refusal

Baby girl is suffering from reflux and starting to refuse the breast, she'll thrash around with her mouth open, pushing away and scratching my breast when she is visibly hungry. She's EBF so I don't know what to do, she's usually a really good feeder latch has been perfect from birth We've been given infant gaviscon but giving it to her is a bit of a hassle as halfway through she cries so much she ends up tiring herself out and not even finishing the medicine let alone the rest of her feed. I feel like she constantly falling asleep hungry and her weight has already dipped slightly. She's not getting full naps either and she's constantly tired which doesn't help when trying to get her a full feed and she's always falling asleep bless her. Even when I do get the medicine down her she's still being sick quite a bit the sick is just thicker, is there anything else we can try??

I have a baby with acid reflux. My suggestions are:

Can you express and feed her breast milk from a bottle? Sometimes when my baby refused to eat from the breast they'd take a bottle. Go figure...

Be careful with Gaviscon and Infacol as they can make babies constipated and then give you another problem. If you do use Gaviscon my doctor suggested taking it once at night. If you really don't notice a difference with the Gaviscon (we didn't) go back and the next step is prescribing Omeprazole which made a world of difference. It's suggested that you take it for 2 weeks and then come off it for 2 weeks to see if the acid reflux is better. Our baby's acid reflux was vastly improved from that medication.

Good luck and it won't last forever 👍🏼

Also, don't want to sound patronising but I'm guessing you're already doing the regular burping and keeping baby upright for 20-30mins after a feed? I highly recommend these bottles too if you don't have them...

Tried her with a bottle and she's wasn't having any of it, just my luck lol. funny enough she hasn't been constipated her poo has just been a bit thicker but she's still managing to go.

Will definitely get back onto the gp and see if they can suggest something else

The latching on and off sounds like normal milk stimulating behaviour, it’s frustrating for us but it’s completely normal she’s just increasing your supply. Is it possible to give the gaviscon before the feed so that you’re not interrupting the feed? Reflux is really tough to deal with! If the gaviscon doesn’t seem to be working there’s definitely other things the gp can prescribe her. If you have instagram lmj.infantfeedingsupport is incredible for breastfeeding support her Facebook name is the same just with spaces between the words.
