Toddler inhaler mask - help

My little girl (2.5) has been prescribed an inhaler, she had a bad cough about 2 weeks at a time, recurring monthly. It's exhausting, doctor thinks she's asthmatic.

He's also prescribed a mask for it as she refuses to use the inhaler straight up as she doesn't like the taste. While I'm working on getting her to use it before bed it's a battle
And I have to result to holding the mask over her when she's asleep.

Issue I have is I don't think much gets through the mask and renders the whole thing useless and wastes the inhaler.

Can anyone please recommend a mask or chamber that they've had experience with it working?. I'm at my wits end!

You should have a volumatic spacer and mask. There are smaller spacers but the volumatic is the best.

Let her play with the spacer, give it to teddies, let her give some to you (pretend of course)

let her decorate the spacer with stickers.

it’s hard work but it’s worth persevering.

Hi ds got his inhalers at around the same age.
He absolutely hated it too. I would have to forcefully hold it over his face.
I ended up giving him and incentive ie take your puffs and get a sticker. But it was still hard.
His doctor said they need to take 10 breaths in and out to make sure they get the full dose. So I would also count slowly along with his breaths so he focused on my voice.

It was very hit or miss at that age though so I have nothing concrete I'm afraid.
Hopefully people wiser than me are on their way with better advise. Good luck

I was told that if you hold the mask over their mouth & noSe for 10 seconds after pressing the inhaler, they will breath in what they need from the dose

i also promise it gets better. Our DS was first prescribed an inhaler around that age. Hated it and used to get very upset. He now does it himself twice a day to take his brown preventer, and can do his blue reliever himself too.

He’s 7 now, for context*

If it’s a salbutamol inhaler and it works for her, it won’t take her long to figure that out. Dd was only 1 and she soon worked out it helped. The steroid inhaler she was less keen on and they can’t feel the immediate benefit.

Thank you for the responses, reassuring.

We have tried with teddies and she was getting good at it. Would let us play around and she would allow us to hold it over her face . Tonight she's refused, cried won't have it, I have ended up forcing it on her face which probably isn't helping in the long run.

We do have a volumatic spacer @Sirzy , she hates it and won't use it, she will use the aero chamber but this is the thing I feel doesn't allow much through and is pointless. I will persevere with the spacer.

Hoping for another miracle mask until we can get her to use it properly.
