Is this an abnormal set up of toes (pic included)?

My DS (10 months) often has his toes all sprawled out. They aren't always like that so I couldn't get a pic of that. But he also seems to have a gap from his big toes to the others (pic attached). His big toenails are also really short. No other babies seem to sprawl their toes out at 10 months or have the toe gap.

I've Googled it (I know) and Downs Syndrome and Autism comes up. Anyone else have a DC with this?

My son has this and has autism and adhd . I also have it and have autism

DigitalGhost · 11/06/2022 21:01

I have this and have adhd. Never really connected the two

I have hobbit wide feet but don't have any larger gap between the big toe and any others. Although rare there, is always the possibility of a mosaism. Unless there are other concerns though, and GP/HV etc haven't raised concerns, then don't worry.

@Fedupmum21 No poor muscle tone as far as I can tell. He sat up unaided around 6 months. Crawls, stands with help and cruises along furniture.

I guess I am just on edge because of the initial high risk for downs at the 12wk scan and now I've noticed these markers. Maybe it came up high risk because of another rare condition not screened for. I don't know.

To another PP, I have took him to a doctor (forgot to mention his thumbs can bend right back like hitchhikers thumb). I took him for that and mentioned my other concerns. Doctor said he seems fine but sent a referral be checked by a paediatrician. But it's much easier said than done not to worry until he's had that appointment.

@ItsAllABitMuch
not at all: my daughter was diagnosed antenatally with “something “.
Very low risk for DS.
She is considered to have “neurogenic Arthrogryposis “.
To be fair, you couldn’t miss that she had disabilities at birth- every joint was fixed. Couldn’t move her neck, hands in strange positions, legs fixed in frog like position etc. She was so weak she couldn’t even blink.
She is still non-verbal, can’t eat, can’t walk etc.
Your DC doesn’t have what my DD has (in fact Great Ormond Street has never seen a case like her).
Its likely to be the same genetic change that I have (multiple tests show no other chromosomal or genetic changes) just on one gene but I’m completely “normal”. I do have funny toes though and a few other things

Blue4YOU · 11/06/2022 22:03

Oh but my DD can move all her joints now (except her feet) and can move more than other kids do. She’s incredible and quite smart

Blue4YOU · 11/06/2022 22:04

Sorry - she and I have exactly the same genetic change.

@Blue4YOU Thank you for sharing.

@grey12 That's kind of how my DS' toes are sometimes! I just couldn't catch a pic when they went like that. How old is your DC?

She's always done it, I think she was about 2/3 months in the picture. She's 4yo already and still does it! Orthopaedic doctor said it would straighten up but it didn't. Doesn't affect her in anyway. But it does look insane, still surprises me and makes me giggle

Current situation 😉
