Hello! First thread so excuse any errors.

I had my one year old son in A and E this morning, he had a temp 38.4, low blood sugar, fast heart rate and blood dirohea 😭

They give him ibruphen for his temp and a sugar gel thing, took a sample of his bloody dirohea and sent us home to wait for a follow up with his GP 🙈

I am worried sick and have no idea what is going on, the consultant said it's obviously an infection, they don't know where from and to let it run its course and they will contact if anything shows in his sample, not very comforting unfortunately.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

I was told to force feed him but he's not interested and just cries.

Ring 111, that way you can speak to someone who is medically qualified. They can advise you whether you should go back to A&E. Or if you're really worried, just go back to A&E, tell them he's no better & isn't taking food. How are you supposed to force-feed a 1 year-old? Is he drinking much milk or water? I'm not surprised you're worried sick!

He is taking sips of water, I've been syringing it in him when he's distracted, he spits it out but I'm hoping he's got atleast a bit down his throat 🙈 he nibbled on a few crackers so that was something atleast, he's sleeping now but still breathing very fast, I just can't wrap my head around it, no one I talk to has ever experienced anything similar 😭

Did they not give him antibiotics if they think it's an infection?

Bruisedandconfused28 · 11/06/2022 21:14

Nope, he said the only treatment for an infection is hydration and he's not dehydrated.

This was a doctor in peadeatrics.

I'm going to ring my own GP on Monday

They're right not to give antibiotics. Some bugs that cause bloody diarrhoea are actually have much worse effects if given antibiotics.

Try and give him ice lolly to suck on
