Chicken pox & holiday!

Okay I'm completely freaking out. We are due to fly to Gran Canaria in 40 days this will be our first holiday in about four years since Covid our holiday last year was cancelled last minute so I've been looking forward to it for so long. There is now chickenpox going about my four year olds class! I know he's going to catch it before long what can I do? The thing is I know that it could take up to 21 days to pass it on and I keep thinking the worst I'm thinking imagine if it takes that long for his little brother to get it that means we will definitely miss our holiday and I am freaking out! Will travel insurance even cover it if I have to cancel because I know a lot of airlines will not let you fly with that?

Get him the vaccine? It can still work post exposure.

If the cost is not an issue, you can have them vaccinated?

Saying that, it going round does not mean he will get it. DC2 caught it at nursery and gave it to DC1. No-one DC1 class caught from them in school (6 have not yet had it, 2 of whom are really close friends).

I'd say vaccinate too. You wont have time for the full course, but it can still help lessen symptoms post exposure apparently, if it does develop. Then get the second dose once you're home and you'll not need to worry about this again! You can book with Boots really easily.

Vaccinated. It still works post exposure.

The vaccination didn't help my daughter as she had been exposed before she had the jab and still got it. Plus it's two jabs to be fully protected and they are a few weeks apart.

get the vaccine. It does work post exposure and even if they do get it it will be milder

@courtney251 did you get away in end? Did you vaccinate? We are currently in the exact same position with our 2 year old. First case reported last Thursday at nursery, we go on holiday in 4 weeks. Not been away since 2019.

courtney251 · 22/09/2023 16:47

Hey sorry I just saw this! We were fine. Somehow he didn't catch it. He has since had it but then was a long time after we were back. Have you managed to get the vaccine?

@courtney251 we dodged it we think ( did have a pox looking spot on her cheek but never came to anything so who knows) and got away on holiday thankfully on the 21st so just saw this. I was advised by the pharmacy not to vaccinate before the holiday since it's a live vaccine and could have brought on pox before the holiday but can now we are back.
