Private paed asthma consultant?

Does anyone have a recommendation for a kind and patient private paediatric asthma consultant?

Ds age 10 never wheezes in daytime but every time he has even a mild cold he gets a barking nighttime cough. He’s had this again for about a week now and it’s only at night and just after waking.

It may not be asthma but I would like to get it checked as it affects his sleep and he is anxious anyway and has ASD and ADHD as well, so anything I can do to reduce the load on him would be good. If it could be prevented with an inhaler I would like to try it. He had a history of bad croup as a toddler/small child and we were given steroids and an inhaler mask to use at home when he was about 3.

Can anyone recommend a private consultant in or around London? We have health insurance through dp’s work.

George du Toit or Gideon Lack

Both fantastic. I have 2 dc (adults now) who had severe breathing issues/asthma/allergies from birth.

Sounds like your son might still be getting croup? So it might be his larynx rather than his lungs but worth getting it checked out

Have you seen your GP. My DS has asthma, he’s adult now and has had asthma since 1 year old. Coughing at night is a clue, but with asthma, you generally have wheezing and trouble inhaling deep breathes. A steroid inhaler and a preventative inhaler will probably be prescribed. But his peak flow breathing will indicate if he has asthma. You can also ask your GP for recommendations in your area for a paediatric consultant for respiratory conditions. Or failing this, ring your healthcare provider and ask them for recommendations.

Why would you not just go to your gp?

Prof Bush, royal Brompton

@12Thorns Because I’m still waiting for a hospital appointment where gp referred to a consultant for something different I asked for in February. Not keen on another 4 month wait just to see someone. Ds is struggling with anxiety and lack of sleep isn’t going to help.

I may be too late but Dr Diab Haddad has been amazing with my daughter who is 6. He diagnosed her with asthma at 4 and has identified all of her triggers. Over the first year and a half or so her asthma continually improved, and now it would be fair to say it is controlled. Highly recommend. we saw him through Axa PPP. Good luck
