My daughter had her tonsils removed on Monday and she ate a little afterwards but it’s now Thursday and she has only been drinking and having ice lollies I know they say it’s normal for kids not to eat for a few days after but when is the point I should start to think about taking her to the hospital…thanks

I had mi e out about 60 years ago! I remember talking of jelly and ice cream then mince. Is there anything she would fancy? Is it too painful?

DuchessOfSausage · 02/06/2022 15:19

Contact your GP or ask 111

RedWingBoots · 02/06/2022 15:20

Have you tried giving her soft and bland foods e.g. mashed potatoes, custard?

One of my brothers had his out as a young adult and that's what he are for a week.

Trivester · 02/06/2022 15:23

Ds has his done a few years ago and was encouraged to eat crisps and toast rather than soft things.

Are you giving her enough painkiller? We had to use both ibuprofen (nurofen) and paracetamol (calpol) for a few days after.

DuchessOfSausage · 02/06/2022 15:27

Same here. Ready salted crisps and toast

Callumb85 · 02/06/2022 15:34

We had to get banana antibiotics from doctors as she absolutely refuses to take any other medications

Make sure you offer food about 20/30 mins after pain killers so they are working at full throttle when eating.

Wartywart · 02/06/2022 15:38

I remember having mine out aged 15. It wasn't the pain of eating, so much as everything tasted horrible. It took a couple of weeks for that to pass.

Callumb85 · 02/06/2022 15:41

I’m offering her food non stop she just refuses it

Ah, cross-posted. I see she has the same problem I had. It did pass. She'll be ok - just try to make her drink stuff like milk/milkshakes. Even those will taste horrible, but she does need to drink.

Callumb85 · 02/06/2022 15:44

will do Wartywart thanks mate

My DD4 had hers out in March. She was similar, also refused to take painkillers as well. It was awful. She mostly just had smoothies and milkshakes until about 14 days later when she asked to go to pizza express and she ate everything in sight.

I think as long as she's drinking and everything else seems ok then try not to worry. Hope it gets better for her soon
