13 year old son and taking vitamins to spur his growth

Hi, this is my first time posting on here. I have a 13 year old son. He has always been the smallest child in the class but is the most energetic and perfect in all proportions. However, even though I dont want him to think there is anything wrong with being short I want to make sure that I have done everything I can do for him to see if I can boost the inches.

Can anyone recommend any height growth vitamins. With actual personal references that tell me how well they worked? I can see that B1 B2 D C are all vitamins a teen should take but wonder if theres one supplement that stands out for anyone.

I am 5ft 3, his dad is 5ft 6 and my son in about 4.11 at thirteen so I know there's not going to be a massive difference!

Thank you so much for reading.

My son is just under 5 ft and is being investigated for possible puberty delay as it's been slow going - he is just shy of 5tt

i give him a teen multi vitamin but no vitamin will speed up growth - if his dad is only 5ft 6 he is not going to be very tall.

just make sure he has a varied diet

Thank you for your reply. It’s a difficult one isn’t it, as you don’t want it to become such a thing they think it’s a problem!

He might just be a little later than his peers in having that final growth spurt - some boys don't really shoot up until after his age.
Give him vitamins if you feel they would help, but also be open to if he mentions his height / development to you, on which case take him to your GP.

Is he on a restricted diet - veggie/vegan/diary free? Does he have ADHD.,varied diet?

Bexstar0202 · 01/06/2022 23:55

Hi, No he’s not on any restriction on his diet and doesn’t have any health concerns at all. I think I’ll go with a multi vitamin for teens as it won’t do any harm and may do some good. Thank you for your response x

My son is quite competitive in a sport where being taller is an advantage and is not blessed in that department. His coach told him to take a teen multivitamin and to eat an egg everyday.

Any signs of puberty - armpit or leg hair, voice broken? Once they show a sign or two they tend to have a growth spurt - but could be another year or two. As long as something has happened hair wise he'll get there.

Pythonesque · 02/06/2022 00:08

For what it's worth, the later he has his puberty growth spurt, the taller he is likely to end up. This can make a difference of a couple of inches easily, or more, between the final heights of an early vs a late developer.

It can be tough on boys developing late but maybe this can be a useful thought to give them, if the topic comes up. My son has not really grown at all since he was 13, and subsequently has been a bit miffed as many of his friends have passed him. He's plenty tall enough though which is different to your situation.

A multi vitamin will help his general well-being but isn't going to help him grow I'm afraid.

Bexstar0202 · 02/06/2022 01:19

My son is too .. in fact he usually gets picked to compete in most games .. including the high jump last week! He even saw the irony of it, but gave it his best shot!! Wishing your son the best too ! X

No signs at all yet. I think you’re right, once he gets going I’m sure he’ll shoot up. It’s interesting reading everyone’s feedback. I know in his class there is a range from 5ft 11 and everything in between to 4ft 11. Thank you for your reply x

If he eats a good balanced diet, don't worry, you could add in a couple of extra bowls of fortified cereal, they have most vitamins & minerals in them & the calcium in the milk will be good as well. He will grow when his body is ready. Ds was 4'11 when he started secondary school & 6'1" when he left.

ZipZapGirl · 02/06/2022 03:18

Does he drink milk? It's definitely good for healthy bones and muscle growth. Some research suggests it makes people taller who drink it well into their late teenage years. My son drinks at least a pint a day and is growing fast - we as parents are not that tall.

fossilsmorefossils · 02/06/2022 03:55

I read somewhere that the dutch are so tall because they drink so much milk and that has a lot of growth hormones in it. Could be bollocks but worth trying?
