Strange rash on 8 month old’s back

Hi all, concerned first time mum here….

DS is 8 months and for the past couple of weeks I’ve noticed weird clusters of white bumps mainly on his back (see photo).

At first I thought it could be eczema but after a quick Google it really doesn’t look like it? He’s woken up this morning and it’s now spread across his back over night!

We haven’t changed anything in his routine. We’ve used Fairy non bio since he was born so it surely can’t be the detergent? We’ve also used a mixture of child’s farm and aveeno moisturiser since he was small too and have kept repurchasing the same products, so literally nothing has changed!

I’m wondering if it could be heat rash or a food allergy? I’m taking him to the GP this afternoon but any ideas???

Is he otherwise well?

Hi @reallyworriedjobhunter , yes absolutely. No fever and a happy baby overall!

Don't discount your usual products, although the ingredients stay the same quantities can vary and they can suddenly start to irritate.

I'd ditch the Child's Farm and Aveeno and see if that helps.

Hi @MrsPelligrinoPetrichor that’s a good point. Although I did think they were relatively mild products. Any suggestions for others?

This is how DD's eczema presented.

I suffer from eczema, but was used to seeing it in dry and sore patches, not generally all over her back. But we got some cream from the doctor and it put a lid on it. It returns if she wears certain fabrics (those fluffy thermal vests particularly), or if she swims and doesn't have a shower immediately after (like at school).

We use Cetraben day-to-day to keep it moisturised (always applying in the direction of the hair so downwards), and Aveeno Baby bath products for hair and skin. We also have some prescribed steroid cream that we use on smaller areas if it gets itchy.

@Throwawaytoday ah ok, Cetraben is a good shout. I’ll try that!

Just got off the phone with the GP and he had a look at the photo and said it’s nothing to worry about, just dry skin. He suggested Cetraben too so will give that a go.
