Infected splinter - pharmacist? GP? (Pic)

DS 5 got a splinter which we thought we had removed… he had woken up with what looks like a lot of pus at the tip. If it was my finger I’d probably poke it with a cauterised needle but thought that’s probably not right approach with a child! With school this morning am wondering about right approach - pharmacist? Put magnesium paste on and wait? Thanks!

Personally I would pop it with a sterilised needle ! Plenty of sudocreme after

Sort it out yourself!

I'd soak in very warm salt water a couple of times a day, it'll pop then , could give it a rub with a clean wash cloth too.

Do you have an ice pack you could numb it with and then pop it?

bare · 30/05/2022 08:01

I'd pop it, squeeze gunk, cover in Sudocrem and a plaster.

If it were my finger, I'd just pop it. However, asking a pharmacist is so easy that it surely makes sense to go there (assuming you don't live somewhere incredibly remote!)

My Dad nearly lost a finger he had a small cut on, so I'm a lot more weary now. But I'd still pop it and put germolene & plaster on, see what it's like after school.

NiceTwin · 30/05/2022 08:12

I would pop some mag sulphate and a plaster or finger bandage on to draw it out.

I'd soak it in warm salt water. I think I'll go on its own if you do that.
