Ortho-k or miyosmart

My daughter is 10 with a prescription of -3.50 and -3.25. I would like to hear from parents whose children have tried or are using Ortho k night contact lenses or Miyosmart glasses. We are torn between the two. Only downside with Ortho k which concerns me is not being able to have sight tests to be able to see if myopia is slowing down. As with the glasses, they are pretty new compared to the contact lenses and as my daughter is now ststting puberty, we really want to try and make the right choice! Would love to hear people's experiences. Might contact lenses is not an option, she has already tried them.

My 10 year old DS has a very similar prescription to your DD and has the Miyosmart glasses. He is getting on with them fine, but has only had them for a few months so haven't yet had an eye test to see if there are any changes.

We'd initially gone for the Ortho K, and had the lenses made, but when it came to the trial of getting them in and out of his eyes it went badly. He is autistic and couldn't cope with the procedure, so we swapped to glasses. I'm hoping he'll try the contacts again in a couple of years, they'll be much better for him for school and sport etc.

Only potential downside with the glasses is there are limited frames available as they have to be a certain size for the lens to fit, so they do tend to quite large and round. My DS doesn't care what they look like, but anyone more self conscious may not like the styles. Worth exploring what is available before you decide.

What was the issue with MiSight?

What was the issue with MiSight?

She wore it for the 10 day trial and all went well. Her eyes were a bit dry at times but we were advised to get eyedrops to lubricate eyes. Then she wore them for a week. One day she said it felt like something was in her eye. I used to wear contacts and had an eye ulcer before which felt like that. So she stopped and was checked out at hospital. Boots opticians then said to stop wearing them until they check her out. 2.5 weeks it took to have an appointment while she was not wearing them . Then wore for one day but took them out early (after 6 hours) as she said it was uncomfortable. She's not wearing them enough to make a difference.

I’ve replied to your other thread too. It doesn’t sound like they were suitable. I would definitely try Miyosmart rather than ortho-k.
you can also reduce myopic progression by reducing close work, haa anbibg regular breaks when she does need to do close work and ensuring your daughter spends at least 50 minutes of more outside every day.
