Just to start by saying I have taken dd to urgent care this afternoon on advice of pharmacist, after she broke out in hives and her lips swelled.
Doctor at urgent care said she had clearly had an allergic reaction to something but couldn't say what. Considered sending her over to A&E in the next town but as her lips had gone down and breathing was normal agreed to discharge home with Piriton and Prednisolone and to arrange bloods with GP next week.
DD has experienced mild swelling to her hands before but we've never been able to pin point cause- never had hives like this though or the swelling to lips.
Any ideas what it could be? Is it worth paying for allergy testing do you think or will GP do this?

Thank you. I have a telephone consultation with GP later this morning to discuss the results ( I got the copy of results yesterday from receptionist). I'm not sure what the threshold is for referral to special allergy services but will certainly ask. I don't imagine all allergies warrant referral to tertiary services ( the results indicate a class 2 egg white allergy- which on Googling doesn't sound that severe, however her symptoms have seemed quite significant to me so will definitely be exploring this further).

I would certainly be requesting an onward referral. It would be worth them running autoimmune bloods too, in my non professional opinion as someone who has multiple autoimmune conditions. That's something the allergy clinic would look into for you (if they haven't already done this).

Bloods alone are not definitive (they frequently throw up false negatives and false positives) and need to be combined with clinical assessment for a full picture.

Do you know what the total IgE was OP?
Our daughter’s results showed various grade 6 allergies (100+) and a number of lower grade allergies of little significance. But her total IgE was in the thousands, so there were clearly more not included in the panels.
