Serial casting / splints - paying privately

Does anyone have experience with serial casting and/or splinting of a child's feet - my DD is 15 months and has a very turned out foot which a private podiatrist is suggesting splints and casts. Looking at paying privately (gulp!) due to potential waiting time on the NHS and just wondered if anyone had experience of this and the likely cost?

I'm about to have experience of casting with my 9 year old on the nhs, not sure if that counts! I'm curious about how long you were told the wait was though. The longest part of the process for us has been trying to get someone to take my concerns seriously. From that point on I think the waiting times have been very quick.

@elliejjtiny

Thanks so much for your reply! My DD has been waiting for a referral since birth for something else and whilst they cocked it up and forgot to do it straight away it's taken 9 months just to get an appointment for that issue and don't know how long it will be until she gets the surgery and was advised by the private podiatrist that wait times were also long for what she needs in her foot (potentially feet)

Can I ask what your son is having casts for? My DD has a very turned out foot and sort of drags it/walks on the side and I'm worried if we don't fix it now when she's young and learning to walk (she's very unsteady and can't walk unaided) that it will hold her back

My son is having casts because he walks on his toes. He has always done it but it got a lot worse last summer. Those waiting times are awful. We went from referral to appointment in just over 2 months which I thought was really good. They would have started treatment that day but I wanted to get his bedwetting sorted first so we are going back in another 2 months.

I think I'd maybe be prepared to wait it out a bit if DD could walk unaided and fairly steadily but she's very unsteady and you can see it's affecting her balance and movement - she's desperate to walk - not helped by fact she's a twin and her twin is running already
