Since Friday there has been a constant stream of messages on the group chat to say that there has been confirmed cases of scarlet fever in DC class. They've emailed the HT. am I being h reasonable to not want to send DC in tomorrow until a deep clean has taken place? Chances are DC has already been exposed to it but im really not confident sending him in any advice? Thanks

i don’t think a deep clean will make a difference:
“Scarlet fever is very contagious and can be caught by: breathing in bacteria in airborne droplets from an infected person's coughs and sneezes. touching the skin of a person with a streptococcal skin infection, such as impetigo. sharing contaminated towels, baths, clothes or bed linen.”
As we are all healthier and better fed than were people in earlier generations, I think scarlet fever is miserable but not dangerous. A friend caught it on a train journey years ago. What are you going to do? Keep your daughter in a cocoon?

Scarlet fever sounds worse than it is. My DC had it when they were three.

Thought they had the flu until they got bright red cheeks. Dr prescribed antibiotics and they worked immediately.

They think Scarlet Fever has mutated to be less dangerous.
My girls had it and even dd2 who likes to be dramatic with illnesses weren't really ill other than bright red. if you do think he has it, then let your doctor know as sometimes they give antibiotics.
