Babyhaler tips

Hi DD is 2 years 9 months. She has had a persistent cough and GP has prescribed an
Inhaler. We have the Babyhaler volumiser to give it to her with. Tried it for the first time tonight and she hated it, screamed and pushed it away. I'm not sure if she got any of it in. Has anybody experience of using these with a child her age and got any tips? Thanks.

My son has it.
Not going to lie it took awhile.
I let him play with it, he started putting it to his face, we put it to his teddies faces etc.

Eventually he started to let us give him it.
It's hard but have to keep persistent and deffo try the role play.

That's a good idea, she loves pretending to give medicine to her toys. Will try that.

It’s not nice but sometimes you just have to pin them down and firmly put it on

The doctor even told me it’s sometimes better for them to scream like that because it gets the medication into their lungs quicker.

Playing with it, letting them put it on the teddy bear etc, is all well and good but sometimes it just doesn’t work and forcing them is the only way.

My brother used to have to have this and they called it "puffer". He had to stand up and flap his arms like a puffin/penguin with every puff, it seemed to help? I've only done it with a much younger baby and we just sat him on our laps facing out as that's how the doctor showed us.

I get my ds (2.5) involved as much as poss. He takes the cap off the inhaler, he gets to push the inhaler to release the medicine (he can't really do it, I am the one pushing it really) and sometimes I get him to roar or something while he's got it on.

Practicing on his dolls and modelling the doll getting upset but that's it's important he has his meds and could he try again etc seemed to help a lot.

Thanks everyone. Will see how we get on with some of the gentler approaches but may need to just force it if that doesn't work!
