Both DC have had eczma. Both times it's been a food allergy causing it. Dd it was dairy, DS it's egg. Nothing helped until we cut out the foods and then the eczema completely disappeared.

@Nutellaspoon could you reintroduce the food once it’s cleared up or must they avoid that food forever ?

And if it’s dairy does that mean finding dairy free milk formula ?

For both son and husband exzcema we found changing washing powder and soap helped as did cutting down on dairy and reducing subs baths to two a week rather than daily. A good moisturiser like aveeno applied twice a day, would really and still do notice that difference if we get lax with applying cream, although at seven he can remember himself a bit more now.

@Doofas thank you that’s useful. Which aveeno cream in particular ?

I’m 36 and had it my whole life😭just try and keep the skin as hydrated as possible I wouldn’t bath every day just wash obvious parts. Keep nails really short to prevent scratching breaking the skin.most people grow out of it I really hope this is the case for your baby!! What I like to remember which is hard sometimes when it’s all over my face is that of all the conditions to have it could be a lot worse

This one, it says it's for babies, but suitable for older people too. It's quite runny. You have to be careful not to get too much from the bottle at once unless you have somewhere to put the excess you can't quite rub in.

Obviously you can get from other places too

My eczema cleared up when I stopped showering everyday and also stopped using soap unless I was very grubby.
I only bath my children every couple of days and rarely use soap or any toiletries on them they are both eczema free

Woop123 · 20/05/2022 19:40

My DS was exactly the same. Gets it’s from my DH.
We found that we needed dairy free formula and was prescribed this by the GP it was called nutramigen. We also was prescribed creams, zeroveen for daily use and steroid cream for when it would really flare up.
We also bath him in aveeno sensitive skin range (blue lids) and we only use surecare and ecover washing powder.
He’s almost 2 and still gets it but it’s only mild and we are only now going onto the milk ladder and re-introducing dairy. So far so good no major reactions! Just a very windy bottom 😂

Yes, my DD can now eat dairy. DS is still too little to try him really.

If it was dairy causing it then if you bf then you would remove dairy from your diet, if ff then yes, a dairy free formula.

Keep it moisturised and stop her scratching as soon as you notice it. They can end up in a scratch itch cycle where they scratch it, which ales it itchier which makes them scratch more and so on. DD used to take the skin off and end up with big bleeding patches behind her knees.

StarlingsInTheRoof · 20/05/2022 20:01

Both my kids and me get it and no food allergies among us. The miracle cream I found was salcura bioskin junior outbreak rescue cream. Avoid bathing them every day and mop up dribble as damp under neck etc can cause it. Avoid synthetic materials in clothes and use a mild laundry detergent.

I had eczema for 30 years.Quite severe. I lost finger nails and stuck to my bed clothes. From being a baby until just after I had my second child at 33ish. I'm now 70. The trouble with eczema is that it comes and goes regardless of what you do. You tend to credit the last thing you tried with being a cure. The number of creams, lotions, potions and food exclusions I want through! I even had my own herd of pedigree dairy goats to avoid cows milk products. Some seem to work for a while then it returns. When I had my second child , it just went and has never come back. A dermatologist told me that it's considered an auto immune disease and strangely enough I've had other auto immune problems. So by all means be careful and keep well moisturised but don't believe all the cures.
