Virus with mouth sores?

My 6 year old started a new school last week and we were warned that a virus was doing the rounds.
He started with a high temperature and tiredness, then vomited once and then this morning he's woke up with a cough, ulcers on the front of his tongue and on his gums and FIVE cold sores. He already has the cold sore virus so it's not that what has caused it, he always gets cold sores when not well.
I've checked his hands and feet and there are no sores I can see.
I've done a covid test and that's negative.

My questions are, he has a party invitation for tomorrow. He's totally well in himself but I'm guessing it's best he doesn't go?
Will he be okay to go to school on Monday? It will be longer than 48 hours since he had a temperature or vomit by that point.

I really wouldn’t be pleased to see him there like that tbh if I was dropping my child off.

I hope he’s feeling better soon.

Surely if he's unwell he should stay at home this weekend to rest fully and recover.

Nobody can tell you about school on Monday, you just need to see how he feels.

That's the thing, he doesn't feel ill at all.

He shouldn't be going anywhere with so many active sores sorry. Children can spread things very easily and he could give that to a pregnant woman or a baby and infect hem with the coldsore virus .

Absolutely not.

Will he be allowed off school with cold sores though?
I'm not going to take him to the party.

For goodness sake please don't have him go if he's got coldsores!!!! Don't inflict them on other kids thats not fair. Even if he's very careful he'll accidentally pass them on.

PerfectPrepPrincess · 14/05/2022 11:07

Have you tested him for covid?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/05/2022 12:08

While I agree with no party, there's no reason to keep him off school with cold sores if you're sure that's what it is and he really is better. Any sign of oozing or weeping and I I'd keep him off. 7/10 people have the cold sore virus, it's incredibly common, it's not like he'll be going round kissing new born babies. Saying all that it sounds like HF and M and if it is that then there's no reason to keep him off school either, they're allowed in if they feel well.

They are definitely cold sores as he's had them before, not this many at once though. He's obviously had some kind of virus which has lowered his immune system.
He vomited on Thursday and had a temp so was off school on Friday and he's woken up today with these sores. He's totally normal otherwise.

I had ulcerated tonsillitis once when I was a student, ulcers and sores from my lips all the way down my throat it was horrific.
With the coldsores you're probably best to check with the school
