Antibiotics for chicken pox?

Hi all

My DS (6m) has chicken pox and one of his spots on his neck is looking quite nasty.

GP was very kind and saw him this morning and prescribed Flucloxacillin.

I've just picked it up and now I'm thinking. Is it ok to give it 🙈 will it make the rest of the spots worse?

Help 🙈🥴 just an anxious first time mum 🙈

I'm guessing GP thinks one of the spots is infected. Why would it make the rest worse?

If anything it will stop more spots from becoming infected, it certainly won't make chicken pox spots worse.

Exactly this.

Take care, but you're doing fine.

My youngest had chickenpox as a toddler and I "didn't think it was that bad" ... he has ended up with a number of small pale round scars on his face and back. (now mid-teens and they don't detract from his appearance, but I can easily see a couple if I look for them)

It will treat the bacterial infection he has in one of the spots, it won’t have any effect on any of the others which are caused by a virus.

GP must think some spots are infected and is treating the bacterial infection with antibiotics.
Chicken pox is a virus so the antibiotics will not affect the CP itself

Remember not to use ibuprofen medication with chicken pox and stick to paracetamol

Mariposista · 13/05/2022 14:41

err why you a GP (who I guess has been to medical school) prescribe it if he/she thought it was inappropriate/ would make something worse? Do you really think a load of unqualified people on an online forum can give better advice than a doctor?
