Grommets and adenoids out - experiences please!

My 6yr old has had glue ear for years. It did improve but has got worse again. However he doesn't appear to be falling behind in lessons and his teacher does not say he is affected.
It is very noticeable at home as he is constantly saying what? I'm also thinking perhaps his behaviour is affected by not being able to hear properly. Sometimes he has terrific rages.
He sounds nasally when he talks. Doesn't suffer from sleep apnoa or snoring really.
He was under NHS audiology and now referred to ENT. The ENT has suggested grommets and adenoids out. We are a bit hesitant as his learning doesn't seem to be affected. Yet perhaps he is being bothered by it all? What do you think? Keen to hear experiences.....

My DD’s ENT specialist recommended to remove adenoids and to do a partial tonsils removal. She suffers from sleep apnea. I have a read a bit about it and it sounds straightforward enough. We have no choice but to do it as this is causing her a lot of issues. Good luck with your DS.

Had this done as a child and don’t remember it being too awful and it did definitely help my hearing.

My son has this done when he was 7 1/2. Made a huge difference and despite me being worried about the procedure, it was extremely straightforward and he was absolutely fine afterwards.

My daughter had her adenoids out at 3 1/2 and it was a great help. Before that she was always 'snuffy' and had lots of ear infections and tonsilitis. At the time taking tonsils out at the same time was not 'popular' so she had to wait till she was 7 for that. She recovered quickly with no problems.

It made a huge difference for our son.

School may not notice because children can be very good at masking things and finding ways to cope/get by.

If he's snoring he isn't getting a good sleep. Tiredness will affect behaviour.

As a child I had glue ear for years. My learning never slipped, but my confidence was knocked as I would mishear things and other children would laugh because I asked a 'stupid question' as I had misheard. I was always tired as I had to lip read to keep up.
Finally have my adenoids removed made such a huge difference (I had had two sets of grommets prior to that).
I was bright so coped.

It's straightforward and made a massive difference to my bairj. No idea why you would hesitate tbh.

To be recommended for grommets the child has to have poor hearing. So why wouldn't you do something to remedy this @sdra

Fwiw,my lo has had grommets, sadly barely effective for my child. Has also had tonsils and adenoids out, which certainly improved sleep quality, when asleep.

Due to the issue continuing we ended up with a more permanent solution than grommets. This seems to have really solved the issue, which was bordering on being defined as deaf due to how poor the hearing ended up.

Given the waiting lists, I'd get him on to the waiting list ASAP and then they will repeat the hearing tests before the op, when the time comes around.
