Take him to the Quack's!

EarringsandLipstick · 25/04/2022 21:58

Is it definitely molluscum? My DC have had molluscum but it's been collections of spots, rather than individual ones.

I don't think it looks infected. I would suggest checking with GP.

Bellybutton88 · 25/04/2022 22:05

Yes it's defo molluscum as he's had the same spot for 2 years but lately just looked more inflamed

My child has just recently (hopefully 🤞) shook off a molluscum outbreak(?) they went very angry just before they cleared up. Hopefully that's what is happening!

Bopahula · 25/04/2022 22:12

My daughter had these. Someone recommended zymaderm for them. They went within about 5 weeks of using it.

The pic you shared doesn't look infected to me.

RoseslnTheHospital · 25/04/2022 22:17

It might actually be about to clear up. My DS had similar on his leg and it went red like that before it healed up.

FusionChefGeoff · 25/04/2022 22:34

Ditto - DSs spots always flared just before they disappeared

UpendedPineapple · 25/04/2022 22:37

Doc told me they get angry looking when your body is fighting them and just before they disappear. I was told only to take DS in if it looked infected.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 26/04/2022 09:05

My DS had a terrible time with molloscum when he was younger. Doctor said it can take up to 18 months to go. He was covered in spots.

I searched through threads on here and discovered that tea tree and witch hazel works best so I gave it a go.

I managed to clear it up in two weeks - the doctor couldn't believe it when I took him back for a check up.

The main thing was to cover the blisters with the tea tree and witch hazel when they look like bursting to stop the spread.

I used Laines tea tree and witch hazel cream ( from Amazon) to treat the blisters and because he had so many I also used boots tea tree and witch hazel facial wash as body wash and the wipes from the same boots range to use throughout the day.

I also used the wipes to squeeze any blisters that looked about to pop and then covered with the cream and a plaster.

Hopefully a sign the body is fighting the virus and it will be gone soon.

My niece was similar when she had it, one single spot on her leg for a long time. When ds had it his torso/arms were covered in them. After 10 months a few of them flared up and then they all disappeared in a few weeks with no interventions or "treatments".

Bellybutton88 · 26/04/2022 14:34

Thank you all for your reply and messages. Really appreciate it. hope that this will pass soon. At the moment it looks like a giant pimple and it doesn't help that its right on his face near his eye

It looks like a big pimple but the yellow / white centre is not pus, it’s the actual virus itself. It looks like a small grain of rice. The spot will get angrier and may eventually burst, especially if he bumps or scratches it. It’s really infectious when it bursts, and it can bleed a bit. So try and keep an eye on it : if it doesn’t burst, it should just dry up and disappear eventually. If it does burst, try and keep it clean and covered with a plaster to stop it spreading.

Bellybutton88 · 26/04/2022 15:34

Thanks for ur advice. Here is how it looks today. Definitely like a giant pimple

My son had Molloscum for a few weeks only, what I did was jab a few with a clean needle than cover with a plaster. You have to let the body know that there is something on it that it needs to fight otherwise they'll just hang around for months doing nothing.

BusterGonad · 26/04/2022 16:41

You must cover with a plaster as this is when they are most contagious. Very very important.

Are they contagious in that they will spread to other people or contagious that they will spread to another part of his body? If the immune system recognises it and can fight off the virus, is the latter still a worry? Many thanks

workwoes123 · 26/04/2022 18:20

They are contagious in that if it bursts and the pearly white centre / fluid / blood is smeared across his skin, a whole new crop of little molluscum can appear wherever there is a microscopic break in the skin. Is this the only one he had ? That’s quite unusual, and lucky. it seems very unpredictable as to when the body actually wises up and fights it off. So it t be that he’ll only have this one spot, and this is his body fighting out off to the extent that no more will appear. If not, letting it burst and smear across his skin might lead to more spots appearing.

doggiescats · 26/04/2022 19:07

My children had molluscum and lasted for a couple of years. I vaguely recall them going red before they disappeared. They literally went overnight.

I'm not entirely sure, but I had a friend who's child had them, I told her to burst them and next thing I know my son gets them, the kids shared transport to school!

BusterGonad · 26/04/2022 19:37

And when I burst my sons I didn't notice more spots appearing near that particular site. But popping them was definitely the best thing as he had them for a matter of weeks. It definitely worked for me.

Bellybutton88 · 01/05/2022 22:23

Thank you all for your replies, does this look like this is now healing?

BusterGonad · 02/05/2022 07:25

I can't see the picture!

BusterGonad · 02/05/2022 21:54

I can see it now. I'd say yes.
