Baby unable to poop without help

My 15 week old lg is unable to poop. The doctor doesn’t seem too bothered and has put her on movicol but now she has run out. I don’t want her to be on this all the time otherwise she just won’t be able to poop on her own. I’m a first time mum so unsure whether this is normal? She’s on aptamil so don’t know whether I can try a different milk? She’s just so constipated and I don’t want to leave her and she gets ill. We bought the Windi gas colic reliever but again that’s forcing her to poo. I’m scared she can’t do it on her own anymore as when she was first born she was going fine. Has this happened to anyone else’s little ones? I’m so worried about her

Get more movicol or other laxative. The most important thing is to keep things moving and if that means medicine for a few months, go for it.

The pharmacy may be able to give it without a prescription if that is quicker

Have you double checked you're making the formula up correctly, measuring the water before you add the powder so the volume of the powder isn't being subtracted from the water amount?

Movicol isn't doing the job for her, it just draws extra water into the bowels to soften things up. Don't worry about her being on it too long, constipation is worse. How long is she going without pooing?

I don’t have the same issue but also have a new baby a little older than yours and I understand totally why you are worrying! It’s my first too and everything is a worry. In your position I would carry on with a laxative if that was helping her; are you sure she can’t go without it? I know some babies go very infrequently, it necessarily every day! I found that infacol made my baby boy constipated a bit. Things change so quickly at these young ages so I wouldn’t worry about carrying on with the laxative If need be for now, you might find in a week the lay of the land is very different! You could also speak to your HV or gp for some reassurance xoxox

*not necessarily every day that was supposed to say! x

As a previous poster explained Movicol just softens the stool by drawing water into the bowel, it isn’t a stimulant and doesn’t enter the blood stream. So it’s totally safe to be taken long term and it doesn’t make the bowel become reliant on it. If you speak to the GP about your concerns they’ll be explain better than me why it’s very safe.
