Took too much antibiotics - breastfeeding

So, I'm exclusively breastfeeding (plus actual food) for my 9 month old.

I've been prescribed amoxicillin for a rotten ear infection. Been in a lot of pain. I very stupidly came home with prescription and took 3 500mg tablets because I misheard doctor who actually said take 1 tablet 3 times a day.

I wouldn't ordinarily worrry about side effects for me. It's my own stupid fault if I get a sore tummy. But I am a bit worried about baby. Doctor said safe for breast feeding but that was taking 1 tablet 3 times a day.

Phoned surgery to ask if I shouldn't breastfeed having taken 3 but doctor genuinely didn't know.

Just wondering does anyone on here have any wisdom? Don't want to make baby sick from too much amoxicillin

Thanks in advance

A few things come to mind:

In more serious infections they use 1g three times per day, so not as big an overdose as you think.

It is considered safe to breastfeed at that higher dose.

Very little amoxicillin goes into breastmilk.

Amoxicillin is an antibiotic that we are very relaxed about prescribing in children, all the way down to the neonatal period.

So whilst noone is going to totally nail their colours to the mast that it's safe, it ought to be. If you're worried, could you pump and dump a feed, to get rid of the highest concentration milk, then feed subsequently?

Does that work then? Will the milk he has in first feed since have highest concentration.

His next feed is due about 8pm when he goes to bed.

You sound like you work in medicine and know what you're talking about

This

Remember amoxicillin is prescribed to babies so even if some does pass to baby it will be drug which is safe for them. Breasts are extremely effective at filtering out stuff which is not meant to get to the milk (not perfect but very good).
Just be aware that baby (and you) may get diarrhoea. Normal and expected side effect for you both

Thank you. I wouldn't have even given a second thought about breastfeeding whilst on the antibiotic. My main concern is I've just taken 1500mg at once eek. If your advice is still the same that's reassuring
