Hi,
After some advice or reassurance please, putting dd to bed tonight and she started screaming out of nowhere that her head was sore and putting her hands in her hair at the back of her head. I felt where she was holding and there’s a dent, it’s quite big, bit bigger than a £2 coin. After I’d felt it she was back to normal, messing around and refusing to go to sleep, then back to saying it hurt. I gave calpol and she seems absolutely fine (she’s asleep now) but it’s shaken me, I’ve no idea where it’s come from. I’m sure it wasn’t there before now, I did her hair for nursery this morning and would have noticed. I think. She hit her head on the door earlier this evening while having a tantrum, but barely cried about that, so if that’s what caused the dent surely it would have been more painful at the time? She only started saying it was sore hours later. I didn’t even know it had happened at the time (I was holding her and she threw her head back, she cried a little and said she’d hit her head on the door but I hadn’t noticed it happening so don’t even know if she banged the same place as the dent).
Should I be worried? I mean, i am, I’m just staring at her and making sure she’s breathing right now, but should I be doing something? It’s panicked me a bit. Anyone had something similar? Should I be calling 111? Thanks in advance

No one here on MN can give you accurate medical information, so yes I would ring 111 and ask for advice.

Yes, you should call 111, if you have a known head injury and have now identified a dent, get medical advice.

When I am in doubt I ask:

  • What is the worst that could happen if I ask for advice?
  • What is the worst that could happen if I do not ask for advice?

Most things are absolutely fine, but I personally would seek advice now you have new information.

Of course you should ring 111. Your child has got a dent the size of a £2 coin on their head and you have no idea where it came from.

Thank you, I knew really, as soon as I posted I shook myself and called 111, I was just alone and panicking, I've worked 15 hours today and wasn't able to get my thoughts straight. Ambulance is on its way.

Thank you all so much, mumsnet still has some gorgeous posters, means a lot. Just to update you as you've all been so lovely, we're none the wiser really, but they checked everything they could check and she's fine in herself, so I feel a lot better about it, it's a bit of a mystery that we're now working on solving (going back tomorrow), but she's ok, she's asleep next to me and they don't think it's anything to worry about. AND we were seen within 2 hours in A&E which was a miracle in itself. Thank you all for thinking of us tonight.
