Concussion or sick bug

My 11 month old lg banged her head this morning as she fell forward and hit it on the door frame on her way down (around 9am) she cried and had a bump and bruise come up straight away which has now gone down almost completely. I contacted my paediatric friend and asked her whether I should be worried, she said keep an eye on her if she's ok in herself and eating sleeping normal then things are likely fine.

Anyway at 1pm she vomited so I took her straight to a&e as I was worried about concussion. On the way there she was sleepy which isn't like her to sleep in car but she did and the whole time we were in waiting room she was very still and just sat cuddling me (again not like her) she was examined by two doctors who both said they felt she was fine and we could go home and observe her at home but to bring her back if she's sick two more times.

Brought her home and gave her two melty sticks (Ella's pouches baby sticks, sort of like giant wotsit but with no flavour) and ten mins later she threw up again. She was a bit more energetic after that for about 30 mins then went quite sleepy again and just wanted to cuddle me which I know can also be a sign of sick bug.

I've googled so much and spoken to two doctors (the senior one said he didn't think she needed a scan) but I'm still sat here worried sick to my stomach.

Not really sure why I'm posting here just to see if anyone has been through similar I guess. If she's sick again I will take her in like they've said, she's currently fast asleep on me. Also was her first week in nursery this week so she could very well have picked up a bug, I just wish I knew.

Has anyone else had their baby/child suffer concussion before?

Hi
My daughter suffered concussion when she slipped on wet floor and hit the back of her head (still gives me panic attacks when I think of it ) . She initially cried then threw up then went all dozy , was very scary , 999 said to take her in do I did , she was very quiet and sleepy in A & E , Drs examined her checked her vision with finger had a good feel of her head. She had observations for Another few hours then we were sent home , told to go back if vomits another 2 times . She perked up a bit the next day but was sick again so went back like they advised. They kept her for obs again and then she was fine no more sickness . If you are still concerned or if she has a headache I would go back .but I am a over cautious worrier . Have you checked temperature for any bugs going around.

Thanks for your reply. It helps to hear other peoples experiences. Because she's only 11 months she can't tell me if she has headache or blurred vision so that's adding to my anxiety not knowing.

She's been sick twice overall, once before taking her to a&e and once after and because she had only just eaten I don't know if that's more of a sign of a bug than an injury. I don't think I will be sleeping tonight just incase. It's so scary isn't it Sad i'm so pleased your LG ended up being ok though that really helps to know that. Was your LO very tired with it?

Yes DD has had concussion twice.

The first time was an accident at a soft play (it was one that shot balls out and they put a bucket over one that didnt work and added a post it - a child pressed the button and the bucket shot up and hit her on the head). She was fine straight after but later (around 6 hours) was sick once and became confused. A VERY long night later and she was better in the morning.

The second time she fell down 4 stairs directly onto her head. Immediately was confused and dazed. Took her to the doctors - checked out and told what you were. She was sick then 3 times at home so back to A&E where she was sick again and needed a CT scan (all clear) her head really hurt for 48 hours after (needed a day off school) and took around 2 weeks to recover.

Thanks for letting me know your experience. It helps so much to know this has happened to other peoples children and they have been ok.

When she was sick 3 times was it over a period of time or straight after each other? When my LG was sick for the second time after I had just given her something small to eat it made me think maybe it was a sick bug but I really have no clue how it works with the vomiting when they are concussed.

Also sorry for the questions but when you said you had a long night with the the first time round, what did that entail? My LG is fast asleep and has been for hours, which I think is good but also scaring me. I've just been in to make her stir and she did which I'm taking as a good sign.

With the sickness she is well known for suffering from motion sickness (treading water makes her sick) so she was sick 4 times in around 3 hours. They think the dizziness from the concussion gave her motion sickness. She was moving around a bit (driving too and from doctors and A&E) so once we were home from A&E having had the CT scan she could settle down. She slept through pretty much that time because we had been given the all clear. This was just before lockdown so she was nearly 11 this time.

With the bucket - she got quite confused around 7pm whilst trick or treating (I am still slightly triggered by halloween) and was sick once then. We woke her up throughout the night every hour and checked her pupils and it took awhile for the confusion to lift that time. She was 4 on this one.

They were different experiences - not sure if was age or whether it was because they were different accidents - and both quite dramatic actually and as I said still haunt me now - the bucket one in particular even though it will be 9 years in October. Not helped by the fact that when I took DS back to the soft play he walked into sometihng and hit his head!

Thanks @Quartz2208

I'm just up with her now she woke up so gave her some water which she had loads of and now she's just sleeping on me again.

She hasn't been sick again yet which is good 🤞🏻
