Waiting for paediatrics appointment for nearly 16 year old

Does anyone have any advice for this situation? I am waiting for a paediatric appointment for my very nearly 16 year old for delayed puberty.

Paediatrics finishes at 16 so at the moment the chances of seeing someone before then seem remote.

When I speak to the Hospital appointments they say speak to GP and GP says speak to Hospital.

So round in circles while the birthday approaches. Presumably there is an adult specialist for delayed puberty and testing if we can'tget anywhere before then? Will they help?

Are you sure it's 16, not 18?

That seems very late. Could you Google endocrinologists at the hospital, ring the switchboard, ask for so and so’s secretary and say I think my son’s been referred but I’m a bit lost as to where we are in the process.
I have a son with multiple issues including endocrine and I’ve always found consultant’s secretaries an incredibly helpful bunch of people.

Definitely 16. Thanks, that is a good idea, I'll try and find a number for the secretary.

If you can find £250 - £300 than you can probably get a private consultation and fast track this. As said above - find out who the consultant is in your local hospital - then google them, find out if they have a private clinic. It will likely be in a private hospital like Nuffield or Spire. They will have a different secretary for the private work - they are usually really helpful.

Yes they need to speed this up

Has he not started puberty at all?

My son is seeing an endocrinologist next weekend but we did go private.

Bit of body hair but that is it. I would have chased earlier but covid ....
I tried the spire (only local private option), they said refer through gp, so back to them I guess.

@Fluxcapacitator we have just seen an encrologist for our son who is 13.5 and no signs of puberty, slow growth and she has suggested hormone injections to get things going as it's really bothering him.

Try and push for your appointments even if you have to use mental health to speed it up.
