6month old not sitting

Hi all

Getting very worried as my 6 month old doesn't sit up independently

We have bought a few seats for her such as "sit me up" but hates them all and would cry after a few mins

Have already seen so many babies the same age who can sit up by themselves. So I'm getting worried.

Any advice? Do you think it's normal?

Tia xx

Many babies aren't sitting independently by 6 months. Honestly, they will get there! For weaning I used the inflatable high chair cushion in the high chair to hold them more upright and comfortably.

One of mine was more like 11 months, none of mine were sitting independently by 6 months.

Mine didn't get into the sitting position until 7 months. I wouldn't put them in different seats to try and make her sit up as it won't help - the best thing is lots of floor time etc so she can practise and will do it in her own time.

My eldest didn’t sit until nearer 9 months and walked around 16 or 17 months. All of these milestones are averages and taking a little longer is very normal and nothing to worry about at this stage at all. Also, she’ll get it on her own so there’s no need to try and help her with different seats etc.

Ahh thanks all so much for this! Makes me feel more relaxed ☺️
It's so hard when you see babies the same age as yours doing things yours has not even attempted yet 🙈

My little one was just gone 8 months when he finally sat independently xx

All babies are different. The milestones are average. My dd did not walk until 14 months but she talked early. My youngest son could walk at 9 months and run at 10 months but could barely mumble a word. My eldest was such a good crawler he did not want to walk. Sitting is anywhere between 6-10 months. Focus on talking to baby and time on floor to make muscles stronger. Relax and enjoy PFB.

Maybe you can do exercises. Like lying them on your knees and holding the hands to sit up and lie down Wink

My 11 month old only started sitting up at 8 months. I was so worried too. He’s rolling now to get around not crawling yet. He’ll just be late to walk like my older DC. He also was late with gross motor ability. I think it’s genetic as I didn’t walk til I was 15 months and my DH was even older.

It’s hard when youre around other babies though that are doing it. That’s why I avoided them second time around!

Mine are all really sporty as children, teens and now adults.

The youngest one didn't walk until 17 months and she's the one that can doing amazing tumbling and always had the strongest core muscles even when little 🤷🏽‍♀️ makes no sense compared to when they were little.

DS2 showed no interest in sitting up.He just wanted to be mobile. If we tried to sit him down on the floor he would either put down his feet to try and stand or throw himself forward onto the floor. He actually crawled (at just under 8 months) before he sat up on his own.A couple of days after he started crawling he sat on his own with a mischievous grin on his face that said "look at me, I'm sitting on my own"All babies are different .
